Mary J. Blige has learned to love her own music<\/p>\n
\nThe Grammy-winning star “didn\u2019t like” the sound of her own voice for years – but her self-love journey has helped to change her opinion.<\/p>\n
\nMary, 53, said on ‘TODAY with Hoda and Jenna’: “I didn\u2019t like the sound of my voice.<\/p>\n
\n“But now I listen to my music and now I love everything about me, I do.<\/p>\n
\n“I used to hate everything about me. The sound of my voice, the sound of my speaking voice. And I used to just be afraid to hear any music back.”<\/p>\n
\nMary ‘s self-love journey has actually helped to transform her entire outlook on life.<\/p>\n
\nThe chart-topping star explained: “We grow up thinking we couldn\u2019t boast or brag or love on ourselves, and now I\u2019m doing all that. I\u2019m boasting and bragging and loving on myself because I\u2019ve earned it.<\/p>\n
\n“I have so much fun with myself. I\u2019m like, \u2018Girl, you look so good. I\u2019m so proud of you. Oh, that looks nice on you.\u2019 And I\u2019m by myself a lot, so I\u2019m always like, \u2018Oh Mary, I love that! Let\u2019s wear this tonight. That\u2019s gonna be hot!\u2019<\/p>\n
\n“I\u2019m my friend, you know, and I love me.”<\/p>\n
\nDespite this, Mary acknowledges that she still has faults, and that she’s still constantly trying to learn and better herself.<\/p>\n
\nThe ‘Family Affair’ hitmaker – who has also enjoyed significant success as an actress – is ultimately determined to “do the right thing” in her life.<\/p>\n
\nMary said: “I\u2019m not perfect, but I strive to be better and that\u2019s what I love about me. I love the fact that I want to do the right thing, even when it\u2019s hard.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
