Despite acting for more than 40 years, Martin Short<\/strong><\/a> said he still gets anxious working with Hollywood royalty like Meryl Streep<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one of the great thrills of my life,\u201d Short, 73, said of working alongside Streep, 74, on Only Murders in the Building<\/em><\/a> at a For Your Consideration event captured by The Hollywood Reporter<\/i><\/a> on Friday, March 1. \u201cIn fact, the first day of shooting \u2013 which was rare because I\u2019m not brand new \u2013 I was driving to work and I thought, \u2018I\u2019m nervous today. I\u2019m working with Meryl Streep.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Before joining the show in season 3, Streep said she was a huge fan of the show that also includes Steve Martin <\/strong>and Selena Gomez.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

After having a \u201creally fun\u201d time working with Martin on the 2009 film It\u2019s Complicated<\/i>, Streep said she decided to call him directly in hopes of securing a spot on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually did call them up and ask. Doesn\u2019t everyone want to be on this show? Clearly they do because next season, they all are,\u201d she said while referencing Eugene Levy<\/strong>, Molly Shannon<\/strong> and Eva Longoria<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming appearances for season 4<\/a>. \u201cThey have to erect barriers to keep these actors out. I was a huge fan of the show, but I also just wanted to have some fun because the world is pretty sh\u2013ty right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the middle of the discussion, Gomez, 31, couldn\u2019t hide her excitement that Streep was a fan of the show before becoming a part of the ensemble cast.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan you believe that Meryl Streep wanted to be on this show?\u201d she asked. \u201cI could die.\u201d<\/p>\n

Streep \u2013 who plays an actress who finally gets her big break after decades of trying to land a job \u2013 quickly won over viewers and critics alike with her performance of Loretta Durkin in season 3. Her character also finds herself in a romantic relationship with Oliver Putman (Short), which is expected to carry on into season 4.<\/a><\/p>\n
