Coming to an end. After seven seasons on The CW, Riverdale<\/em><\/a> will be wrapping up its story \u2014 and the cast has plenty to say about heading to the finish line.<\/a><\/p>\n Before the show was renewed<\/a> for its final season, Cole Sprouse<\/strong><\/a> teased that he was ready to move on to other opportunities<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m not a creative force behind [Riverdale<\/em>]. I actually have no creative control,\u201d he told GQ<\/em> in March 2022. \u201cWe show up, receive the scripts often the day of, and we\u2019re asked to shoot.\u201d<\/p>\n The former child star also noted that his fellow cast members were ready to \u201cwrap it up with a bow.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n Later that year, The CW\u2019s CEO Mark Pedowitz<\/strong> confirmed that Riverdale<\/em> would be concluding after its seventh season<\/a>. \u201cI am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff,\u201d he said during a call with reporters in May 2022. \u201cWe had a long conversation with [executive producer] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa]<\/strong> yesterday, who is thrilled by this news, and we will treat the show in the manner it deserves. We want to make sure it goes out the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cI think they, too, felt that seven years is the right amount. As a fan myself, I do want to do what is right for the show.\u201d<\/p>\n That same month, KJ Apa<\/strong><\/a> broke his silence about the major transition in his career<\/a>. \u201cI try not to think about it, because the more I think about it, the more real it becomes,\u201d the I Still Believe star<\/em>, who has been on Riverdale<\/em> since its 2017 debut, told TV Line<\/em>. \u201cI think a lot of us saw it coming, season 7 most probably being the final season. So it didn\u2019t come as too much of a surprise to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Apa joked that there was one aspect of playing Archie Andrews that he wouldn\u2019t mind leaving<\/a> behind, adding, \u201cI can\u2019t say I\u2019d miss dying my hair every week. I\u2019m looking forward to being myself again, but I promise you guys, this last season, we are going to end it with a bang, and we can\u2019t wait to share it with you.\u201d<\/p>\n His costar and onscreen love interest Lili Reinhart<\/strong><\/a> later offered a glimpse at how the cast would be spending their time<\/a> before season 7 production kicks off. \u201cWe spend so much time together during our filming season, that when it is our hiatus, we\u2019re all like, \u2018Bye.\u2019 And we do keep in contact with each other for sure,\u201d she detailed to Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in August 2022. \u201cI talk to Cami and Mads and Vanessa all the time and M\u00e4dchen, but everyone\u2019s busy, everyone\u2019s doing their things, and we know we\u2019re coming back to each other, so, [our cast group chat<\/a> is] not weepy yet.\u201d<\/p>\n The Ohio native, who has played Betty Cooper since season 1, opened up about what ending she wants for her character.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI would obviously like to see a happy ending for Betty, knowing that she will be OK \u2014 an optimistic, lighthearted note,\u201d she continued. \u201cI don\u2019t know who she\u2019s gonna end up with or where, how, why, when \u2014 I know nothing about the final season \u2014 but I just hope that she\u2019s happy, and you have an idea that things are gonna settle down for her in the best way.\u201d<\/p>\n
