Throughout season 28 of The Bachelor<\/em><\/a>, Kelsey Anderson<\/strong> has often opened up about how much her family means to her.<\/p>\n

During a one-on-one date with Bachelor Joey Graziadei<\/strong><\/a> in Spain, which aired in February 2024, Kelsey shared that her mom died in 2018 after a battle with breast cancer.<\/p>\n

While detailing the tragedy, Kelsey added that her dad has been in her corner throughout her Bachelor Nation<\/a> journey \u2014 and shared the encouraging message he had for her before she left.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the way to the airport, I was on the phone with dad, and I was like, \u2018What do you think mom would think about all of this?\u2019 He was like, \u2018You\u2019re your mother\u2019s child. You\u2019re so brave.\u2019 He was like, \u2018That\u2019s something your mom would do.\u2019 He just felt like I was exuding my mom\u2019s energy, I guess,\u201d she said, to which Joey replied: \u201cWith how you\u2019re describing her energy, 100%.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelsey is one of the contestants<\/a> vying for the affections of Joey during season 28 of the ABC reality series, which kicked off in January 2024. She received a rose ahead of the show\u2019s hometown week<\/a>, leading her to introduce Joey to her family in Louisiana. (The other finalists are Daisy Kent, Maria Georgas <\/strong>and Rachel Nance<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

Denise Anderson<\/h3>\n

Kelsey\u2019s mother, Denise, died in 2018 after being diagnosed with breast cancer that \u201cmetastasized on her bones,\u201d Kelsey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey gave her six months,\u201d Kelsey told Joey. \u201cAfter that, it was just very aggressive and after I think about 2 months, she passed away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since her mom\u2019s death, Kelsey said she sees Denise in butterflies, saying, \u201cWhenever I see butterflies it feels like it\u2019s my mom there. Right before I came on here, I got off work and I was walking down and I saw butterflies in the middle of the city of New Orleans. And I don\u2019t know, that kind of was reassuring to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelsey noted that her mom has \u201creally shaped\u201d who she is today. She gushed that her mom was \u201csuch an amazing woman\u201d who \u201cbrought so much light into any room that she walked into.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Kelsey said it\u2019s \u201chard\u201d for her to think about her mom not being there by her side at her wedding, she shared that opening up to Joey has been \u201cvery special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that, like, my mom\u2019s story in my life is so significant and special to me that it has shaped me into who I am. It felt really nice, him telling me that the qualities I described in my mom was something that he saw in me,\u201d she said in a confessional.<\/p>\n

While Kelsey noted that she wishes she could tell her mom about her experience on the show, she said she knows her mom is seeing everything that\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she\u2019d like you,\u201d Kelsey told Joey, to which he replied, \u201cI hope she would.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mark Anderson<\/h3>\n

Kelsey\u2019s father, Mark, met Denise in the military where they were both police officers. (Kelsey said on the show that her mom earned the title of \u201cSoldier of the Year\u201d on several occasions.)<\/p>\n

While Kelsey shared she \u201cwasn\u2019t close\u201d with her dad growing up because he was \u201cworking a lot,\u201d she said their relationship has changed since her mom\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad is really my favorite guy,\u201d she said during a February 2024 episode of The Bachelor<\/em>. \u201cWhenever anything happens, he\u2019s the person I run to. Whenever I\u2019m happy or I\u2019m sad. And definitely in happy and sad moments I think that I really miss my mom but I know that I have my dad that I can lean on.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI think that I\u2019m so thankful that he really stepped up. I think that\u2019s something that I think is so amazing about him is that, like, he lost the love of his life and he\u2019s had five kids. I can\u2019t imagine that scenario, where you\u2019re so devastated but so are these people that are depending on you. And you just kind of have to do your best and be there for them when you need people for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelsey told Joey that she and all of her siblings have \u201csuch distinct personalities,\u201d but that she\u2019s \u201cdefinitely closest in personality\u201d with her younger brother, Matthew.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard him on the phone when I was with my dad right before I came here and he was like, \u2018I\u2019m so proud of Kelsey,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
