Joey Graziadei<\/strong><\/a> has been falling hard for Daisy Kent<\/strong><\/a> on The Bachelor<\/em><\/a>. The season 28 contestant has also won over the hearts of viewers by opening up about her hearing loss and living with a cochlear implant.<\/p>\n Daisy was diagnosed with M\u00e9ni\u00e8re\u2019s disease when she was 17. M\u00e9ni\u00e8re\u2019s is an \u201cinner ear problem that can cause dizzy spells, also called vertigo, and hearing loss,\u201d according to the Mayo Clinic. \u201cSymptoms of M\u00e9ni\u00e8re\u2019s disease may be due to extra fluid in the inner ear called endolymph. But it isn\u2019t clear what causes this fluid to build up in the inner ear.\u201d<\/p>\n Daisy first realized she was having trouble hearing when her dad tried to wake her up one morning and she couldn\u2019t hear him. The Minnesota native said that her hearing problems were likely triggered by Lyme disease, which she didn\u2019t receive a diagnosis for until she was 21. However, she spent years feeling sick before learning what was wrong.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I was 11, I started having stroke-like seizures,\u201d she told Joey during a one-on-one date. \u201cThey didn\u2019t really know why. When other people would, if my siblings got sick, if I would get what they got, I would be 10 times sicker.\u201d As the years went on, Daisy \u201ckept getting sick\u201d to the point where she \u201cdidn\u2019t feel good at all, like, ever.\u201d<\/p>\n After moving back in with her parents she eventually learned that she had Lyme disease and traveled to Germany for treatment.<\/p>\n When Daisy first learned that she had Lyme disease, she \u201cwent the herbal route\u201d for treatment. She soon realized that her condition was getting worse instead of better \u2013 \u201cit was everywhere, all my joints, and it got to the point where I physically would just lay in bed all day,\u201d Daisy shared on TikTok \u2013 and she \u201cstarted doing antibiotic fusions and taking 26 pills a day.\u201d<\/p>\n The treatment left her feeling sick with side effects, which led her to Klinik St. Georg, an inpatient treatment center for Lyme disease and cancer, in Germany. She spent 30 days in the facility and had \u201cwhole-body hypothermia\u201d treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cThey put you under and raise your body temperature up to 107.6 degrees,\u201d Daisy shared. \u201cYour whole body, even your head. That kills off the Lyme. You can do that twice and they also do plasmapheresis, where they take out your blood, clean your plasma, and put it back in. When they took out my blood, it was dirt brown, and when they put it back in, it was a bright yellow color. My mercury levels were through the roof.\u201d<\/p>\n Other treatments that Daisy underwent in Germany included a colonoscopy, endoscopy, blue light therapy, ozone therapy, infusions, injections, detox baths and enemas.<\/p>\n \u201cI had tubes going into my chest,\u201d she told Joey. \u201cI lost a ton of hair. I lost, like, 15 pounds in five days. It\u2019s been pretty wild.\u201d<\/p>\n Daisy got a cochlear implant in her left ear in 2022 to help her hear. \u201cIt\u2019s honestly really changed my life,\u201d she admitted. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to me because I forgot everyday sounds. I\u2019m so thankful and I\u2019m so happy and my life is full of love.\u201d<\/p>\n Today, Daisy is healthy and thriving with her cochlear implant. \u201cI am fully capable with it,\u201d she said. \u201cI am doing so well. But I am still learning with it.\u201d<\/p>\n A cochlear implant is \u201can electronic device that improves hearing,\u201d according to the Mayo Clinic. Rather than amplifying sounds like a hearing aid, the cochlear implant \u201cbypasses damaged portions of the ear to deliver sound signals to the hearing (auditory) nerve.\u201d<\/p>\n In August 2023, Daisy released the children\u2019s book Daisy Doo and All The Sounds She Knew<\/em> about a little girl with a cochlear implant.<\/p>\n While Daisy has received an influx of support amid her time on The Bachelor<\/em>, she also hasn\u2019t been able to avoid negative comments. In February 2024, she directly responded to those criticizing her voice on the show.
