Emmy Russell<\/strong><\/a> faced the American Idol judges on Sunday night\u2019s (February 25) episode!<\/p>\n The 24-year-old hopeful sat at the piano and sang an original song for Lionel Richie<\/strong><\/a>, Katy Perry<\/strong><\/a> and Luke Bryan<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n However, when she brought up that she grew up singing on the road, and that her grandmother was a country singer. When asked who her grandma was, she surprised the judges by revealing she is the late Loretta Lynn<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s granddaughter!<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Emmy<\/strong> was fairly quiet and timid while appearing in front of the judges, and she explained why she thinks she\u2019s that way.<\/p>\n \u201cI think there\u2019s a reason why I think I am a little timid and I think it is \u2018cause I want to own my voice and I wanna own it,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I wanna challenge myself and come out here and really step in and be like \u2018Okay, come on Emmy<\/strong>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Her mother, singer Patsy Lynn<\/strong> of The Lynns<\/strong>, was at the audition as well, and shared why she thinks her daughter was nervous.<\/p>\n \u201cShe just wanted to do this honestly [and say] \u2018this is who I am and this is what I do and this is my heart,\u2019\u201d she explained. \u201cI think that when you come from a musical family, the shadow is so big. How do I fill those shoes? Well the deal is, you don\u2019t. You make your own shadow.\u201d<\/p>\n However quiet she was when talking, Emmy<\/strong> made an impression with the judges when she sang, ultimately earning a ticket to Hollywood!<\/p>\n \u201cEmmy<\/strong>, you\u2019re an A+ songwriter. So was your grandma, you got the gift,\u201d Katy<\/strong> told her. \u201cI don\u2019t think you need to compare yourself to what grandma was. You\u2019re totally different, you shouldn\u2019t give yourself all that pressure. I think you came in like a mouse.\u201d<\/p>\n Katy<\/strong> also urged Emmy<\/strong> to really speak up loud and proud.<\/p>\n \u201cMy dear, you have promise, and I like your promise,\u201d Lionel<\/strong> gushed. \u201cEach one of us is trying to battle something that we\u2019re trying to overcome. In your case you have big shoes. Now if I can just get you to put those shoes back in the closet, that\u2019s not your size.\u201d<\/p>\n Emmy<\/strong> is among many other celebrity relatives who have auditioned for American Idol<\/em>.
