Kenneth Mitchell<\/strong><\/a> has sadly passed away.<\/p>\n The Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> actor died after a five year battle with ALS at the age of 49, his family confirmed in a statement over the weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWith heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell<\/strong>, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,\u201d read the post.<\/p>\n \u201cKen <\/strong>was widely known as an actor in many films and television shows. He\u2019s portrayed an Olympic hopeful, an apocalypse survivor, an astronaut, a superhero\u2019s dad, and four unique Star Trekkers,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Kenneth<\/strong> was the father of two children, Lilah <\/strong>and Kallum<\/strong>, shared with his wife Susan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cKen<\/strong> was diligent and hardworking in everything he did, but as a father these traits found their fullest expression. He was extremely dedicated to being a positive and playful force in the lives of his children. Regardless of his later disabilities, Ken<\/strong> discovered a higher calling to be more fully himself for his kids. Ken<\/strong> will be forever proud of who his children have become,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n He was diagnosed with ALS in 2018 and began using a wheelchair in 2019. He shared his diagnosis<\/a> publicly in 2020.<\/p>\n \u201cFor five and a half years Ken <\/strong>faced a series of awful challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken<\/strong> fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment,\u201d the family said.<\/p>\n \u201cKen is forever grateful for the massive amounts of love and endless support he received from his community along this journey. Especially the courage, resilience and strength displayed from his extraordinary wife, family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor played the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha, Tenavik and Aurellio on Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>, and also voiced several characters in an episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks<\/em>. He also played the father of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel<\/em> and starred in TV shows including Nancy Drew<\/em>, The Astronaut Wives Club<\/em>, Jericho<\/em> and Switched at Birth<\/em>.<\/p>\n Our thoughts are with Kenneth<\/strong>\u2018s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.<\/p>\n We have sadly lost many stars already in 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
