When it came to Clueless<\/em> becoming a cult classic success, Donald Faison<\/strong><\/a> was saying, \u201cAs if.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI had no clue [the film would take off,]\u201d Faison, 49, exclusively tells Us Weekly<\/em> while promoting NBC\u2019s Extended Family<\/em>. \u201cI was just happy to be in a studio film, to be honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n Faison says film producer Adam Schroeder<\/strong> assured him that the 1995 comedy was \u201cgoing to be a big hit,\u201d \u2014 but he wasn\u2019t so sure.<\/p>\n \u201c[I looked] at him like, \u2018You\u2019re out of your mind. I don\u2019t even understand what we\u2019re saying in this. There\u2019s no way America\u2019s going to understand. \u2026 If I don\u2019t understand it, there\u2019s no way,\u2019\u201d he recalls. \u201cAnd I was completely wrong. I\u2019m so happy I was wrong, too, because 30 years later we\u2019re still talking about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Since its release, Clueless<\/em> has cemented its status as an iconic film. The movie follows high school student Cher (Alicia Silverstone<\/strong>) who\u2019s the queen bee of her class in Beverly Hills. When she gives new student Tai (Brittany Murphy<\/strong>) a makeover, she watches as Tai\u2019s popularity soars. (Clueless<\/em> also subsequently became a sitcom in 1996, airing for three seasons.)<\/p>\n Faison played Dion\u2019s boyfriend, Murray, in the film, later reprising his role for the sitcom spinoff, which ran from 1996 to 1999. The actor recalls attempting to channel Ice Cube<\/strong> with his character, calling Murray a \u201cgangster wannabe.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI came in with bandanas every audition,\u201d he says. \u201cI came in with a bandana, tied, baggy a-s jeans. My pants were hanging already.\u201d<\/p>\n As for where Murray is today<\/a>, Faison jokes he\u2019s \u201cstill in Africa running the country,\u201d (Murray moved to Africa during the Clueless<\/em> series.)<\/p>\n When asked whether he\u2019d be interested in a potential revival, Faison says he \u201cabsolutely\u201d would reprise his role \u2014 but only if Amy Heckerling<\/strong>, who penned and directed the original film, returns to write it.<\/p>\n Faison adds that there are \u201coften\u201d talks of a Clueless<\/em> reboot, and he knew it was \u201cofficially official\u201d when Paul Rudd<\/strong> said he was game<\/a>. However, Faison notes that getting the cast together would be a \u201ctough\u201d challenge as \u201ceverybody\u2019s doing their own thing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a lot that\u2019s happened in the last 30 years,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n For now, Faison is focused on NBC\u2019s Extended Family<\/em>.
