Maggie Gyllenhaal<\/strong><\/a> has now embraced her body, but she hasn\u2019t always found it easy to be so accepting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think when I was younger, my goal was to be as thin as possible, and that was the ideal. But I wasn\u2019t ever able to get so far over there,\u201d Gyllenhaal, 46, said on a recent episode of \u201cThe Longevity Game\u201d<\/a> podcast. \u201cBut I still think that was the goal for a long time. I just wasn\u2019t willing to sacrifice all that much, I think, and thank goodness for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the early days of Gyllenhaal\u2019s Hollywood career<\/a>, she said she was told by two different directors to lose 10 pounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first started auditioning and acting and stuff, it was a time when you could say all sorts of crazy things to actresses,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve always been pretty thin \u2026 it\u2019s a f\u2013ked up thing to say to somebody, OK?\u201d<\/p>\n

Gyllenhaal continued, \u201cIt only occurred to me just now that two different directors said that to me. I think that both of them said it as a kind of manipulation. They were trying to make me feel something, which they managed to do. But still, like, that\u2019s crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that she was constantly being told she wasn\u2019t \u201cpretty enough\u201d or \u201csexy enough,\u201d saying with a laugh, \u201cI would, like, wear something I thought was sexy and go to an audition and then get that note.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gyllenhaal noted that the comments \u201cdid hurt\u201d and it \u201cdidn\u2019t completely go away\u201d as she still can recall their remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think my response at the time was just to, like, be really fierce, you know, like, \u2018F\u2013k that,\u2019 or whatever, in order to get through it,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then how much of that was put on, I mean some of it was certainly put on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, years later, Gyllenhaal said she\u2019s become more accepting of her body.<\/p>\n
