{"id":77582,"date":"2024-02-21T23:31:27","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T23:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/21\/the-deer-hunter-acting-icon-who-inspired-wolverine-dead-aged-76\/"},"modified":"2024-02-21T23:31:27","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T23:31:27","slug":"the-deer-hunter-acting-icon-who-inspired-wolverine-dead-aged-76","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/02\/21\/the-deer-hunter-acting-icon-who-inspired-wolverine-dead-aged-76\/","title":{"rendered":"&apos;The Deer Hunter&apos; acting icon who inspired Wolverine dead aged 76"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"byline\">\n<time itemprop=\"datePublished\" content=\"2024-02-21\" datetime=\"1708558287\" pubdate=\"\">21 February 2024<\/time>\n<\/p>\n<p>Actor Paul D\u2019Amato \u2013 who inspired the Wolverine comic character and featured in the wedding scene of \u2018The Deer Hunter\u2019 \u2013 has died aged 76.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"image-caption landscape\">Actor Paul D\u2019Amato \u2013 who inspired the Wolverine comic character and featured in the wedding scene of \u2018The Deer Hunter\u2019 \u2013 has died aged 76<\/p>\n<p>He was best known for playing a jaded green Vietnam veteran alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/robert-de-niro\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,robert-de-niro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert De Niro<\/a> in 1978\u2019s Vietnam epic \u2018Deer Hunter\u2019 but also played a range of characters in police TV drama \u2018Law and Order\u2019, and his family said he passed away on Monday (19.02.24) following a four-year battle with a rare brain disease.<\/p>\n<p>His fianc\u00e9e Marina Re told The Hollywood Reporter he was the \u201cmost wonderful, sweetest guy\u201d who fought \u201cso hard\u201d against his illness.<\/p>\n<p>Paul\u2019s co-star in 1977 ice hockey comedy drama \u2018Slap Shot\u2019 Steve Carlson also confirmed the news of his death in a post on X, in which he said: \u201cRIP Paul D\u2019Amato. \u201cSending heartfelt condolences to Family and fellow friends, actors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was the late actor\u2019s acting as \u2018Dr Hook\u2019 in \u2018Slap Shot\u2019, which also starred Paul Newman that inspired X-Men comic book character Wolverine.<\/p>\n<p>\nCartoonist John Byrne said of the star: \u201cHe just had the look. He had the crazy eyes. And that\u2019s what Wolverine needs to have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nIn his later years, Paul worked as a boot fitter in a Vermont ski shop and <\/p>\n<p>\nis survived by his sister Andrea and girlfriend Marina Re.<\/p>\n<p>\nBorn in Worcester and later raised in Spencer, Massachusetts, he started working as a stage-hand when he was about 14, which inspired him to become an actor.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe was both an athlete and actor and appeared in theatre productions and on the ice hockey team while attending Emerson College.<\/p>\n<p>\nPaul also appeared in a string of benefit golf tournaments and sports gatherings, including the Enfield tournament, which he played in for about 10 years and raised funds for scholarships.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/celebrity\/deer-hunter-acting-icon-who-inspired-wolverine-dead-aged-76-1394973.html?f=rss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>21 February 2024 Actor Paul D\u2019Amato \u2013 who inspired the Wolverine comic character and featured in the wedding scene of \u2018The Deer Hunter\u2019 \u2013 has died aged 76.
