Solange Knowles wants to release a record of tuba tunes<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old Grammy winning sister of Beyonc\u00e9, 42, said she has learned to play the brass instrument and has been writing music specifically for it \u2013 but doubts her fans would appreciate an album of her efforts.<\/p>\n
She told the new issue of Harper\u2019s Bazaar magazine: \u201cI love it. I\u2019ve started writing music for the tuba, and I am trying to talk myself into releasing it, but I can only imagine the eye rolls from people being like, \u2018This (girl) hasn\u2019t made an album.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Solange, whose last album \u2018When I Get Home\u2019 was released in 2019, also said about why she took up the tuba: \u201cIt sounds like what the gut feels like to me. \u201cThere\u2019s a way that it takes up space that you can\u2019t deny, and it also just feels very Black to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Along with taking up the tuba, Solange has recently toured the world, held a special performance at the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale de Venezia and written the score for a 2022 New York City Ballet production.<\/p>\n
\nShe also last month put on a multi-medium performance exhibition in four acts called \u2018In Service to Whom\u2019 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, which saw her delve into \u201ceveryday\u201d and \u201cmundane\u201d gestures that have contributed to her creativity.<\/p>\n
\nHer 84-minute show featured Solange performing original orchestral works apparently inspired by repetition, gospel vocal arrangements, minimalism, and the Black southern marching band music of football games.<\/p>\n
\nShe also told Harper\u2019s about how she remained almost anonymous for some elements of the show: \u201cThere were moments I just stood there in silence. When people entered the space, they didn\u2019t notice that I was there.<\/p>\n
\n\u201c(When they did) they had to adjust to the uncomfortableness of me just existing, not entertaining or delivering or slaying.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
