It\u2019s been nearly six years since Cardi B<\/strong><\/a> took over the rap world with Invasion of Privacy<\/em>, and her fans are ready for the follow-up.<\/p>\n

One such supporter is Cardi\u2019s estranged husband, Offset<\/strong>, who took to Instagram on February 19 to encourage her to take the plunge. \u201cStop being [scared] and drop the album,\u201d Offset captioned an Instagram Story video that showed him bobbing his head to muted music. Apparently, the music in question was Cardi\u2019s unreleased album, and he was giving his seal of approval. \u201cS\u2013t goes crazy,\u201d he wrote, adding four fire emojis.<\/p>\n

Offset is hardly the only fan waiting for Cardi\u2019s second album. She\u2019s been teasing new music for years, dropping tons of singles and collabs but never confirming when a full album is dropping.<\/p>\n

Cardi released Invasion of Privacy<\/em> on April 6, 2018, nearly one year after its lead single, \u201cBodak Yellow,\u201d established her as one of hip-hop\u2019s newest stars. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200, and as of 2024, the RIAA has certified it quadruple platinum. The singles \u201cBodak Yellow\u201d and \u201cI Like It\u201d hit No. 1 on the Billboard<\/em> Hot 100.<\/p>\n

Cardi B\u2019s Invasion of Privacy<\/em> came out in April 2018, and the ongoing absence of a follow-up album has left many wondering whether she\u2019s walked away from music.<\/p>\n

That speculation intensified after an Instagram Live session in November 2023. \u201cI\u2019m out of here,\u201d she said at the time<\/a>. \u201cY\u2019all might not see me for a long time. \u2026 \u2019Cause I\u2019m not in the mood to be famous. If y\u2019all want to see me, y\u2019all come to the TikTok concert in Arizona. Other than that, I don\u2019t know. I\u2019ve been liking my low-key life. You hear me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hours later, when fans began to wonder whether Cardi had just announced her retirement, she tweeted that she \u201cnever said I was taking a hiatus.\u201d She added that she was \u201ccontinuing with my social media break like I have been for the last few weeks. In December 2022, Cardi went on Instagram Live<\/a> and explained that anxiety over being away from her kids has contributed to her delaying the release of her second album. She and Offset welcomed their daughter, Kulture Kiari, in July 2018 and their son, Wave Set, in September 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I have gotten too comfortable because, you know \u2014 I\u2019m just a mom, and I do have anxiety<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve been having a lot of anxiety because I know right after I drop my album, I have to go out on tour, and I have bad separation anxiety from my kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also opened up about struggling to match Invasion of Privacy<\/em>\u2019s success. \u201cI just be feeling like I don\u2019t be liking anything. I feel like I got so many songs. I just don\u2019t like nothing. Like, nothing is good enough. I got so much f\u2013king money saved up, I be like, \u2018Yeah, whatever the f\u2013k,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cMaking music to me has become like a job that gives me anxiety because everybody just critiques everything that I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardi added that \u201csometimes you don\u2019t want to do something that gives you that much anxiety,\u201d noting, \u201cSo I just be freezing myself, but I have to let that go. I have to release more music \u2014 I have to go out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans might assume that Cardi\u2019s songs \u201cWAP,\u201d \u201cUp\u201d and \u201cBongos\u201d will be included on the new album, but Cardi hasn\u2019t confirmed that. Her interviews indicate that she has so many songs in the bank that these previously released tracks might remain non-album singles. Her 2019 collaboration with Bruno Mars<\/strong>, \u201cPlease Me,\u201d was such a single, as was her 2018 release \u201cMoney.\u201d<\/p>\n
