Songwriter Tiffany Red took to the internet to call out some major artists taking publishing rights away from songwriters. She starts off by saying that almost every record she has done, she has written when the artist was not in the room. She then goes into detail about some songs she’s worked on for some big name acts, breaks down when the song was written, and talks about artists taking publishing credits away from the songwriters.<\/p>\n

Zendaya – “Replay”<\/b>: Zendaya got ~10% of the publishing – she did not write on the song. It was written at a Rihanna songwriting camp and was on hold for Rihanna. It was then on hold for ONTD’s own Rita Ora. Then it went to Zendaya. <\/p>\n
Tamar Braxton – “King”<\/b>: Tiffany Red wrote that song for herself, in her own living room.<\/p>\n

She then says she calls out Beyonc\u00e9<\/b> specifically because she is the one with the money, power, and influence to change things. She says she spoke to somebody who managed someone that wrote and produced on Renaissance – a particular song was written 6 years before it got to Beyonc\u00e9 and Beyonc\u00e9 got 25% of the publishing. She said she spoke to another person involved with Renaissance that didn’t get proper credit. She then says the reason people who work for Beyonc\u00e9 don’t talk is because they’re all on NDAs. <\/p>\n
She spoke to a writer on one of Beyonc\u00e9’s previous records who told her that they didn’t want any trouble and just let Beyonc\u00e9 take the publishing. <\/p>\n
She calls out the power dynamic at play and discusses how musicians do need to be held accountable for business practices they engage in. She calls out the exploitation of writers by artists getting rich off of other people’s work. <\/p>\n
She goes on to discuss racism in the industry, capitalism, wage theft, and abuse of power. <\/p>\n
