Ashlee Simpson<\/strong><\/a> and Pete Wentz<\/strong><\/a> were a \u2014 temporary \u2014 match made in pop rock heaven.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always liked guys that have an inner geek. I\u2019m an inner geek myself,\u201d the \u201cNothing New\u201d songstress gushed after meeting the fellow musician in 2006. \u201cSo I don\u2019t like anyone who thinks they\u2019re too cool.\u201d<\/p>\n Two years later, Simpson and Wentz were married with a baby<\/a>. She was 24 when she gave birth to their son, Bronx<\/a>, in November 2008.<\/p>\n While fans of the couple may have been shocked when the couple called it quits in 2011, he later shed light on their rocky romance.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought it was a forever thing,\u201d the Fall Out Boy bassist told Howard Stern<\/strong><\/a> in 2015. \u201cI\u2019m not the kind of guy \u2026 My parents have been married, I think, 35 years. Forty years, this year, maybe? But no, I didn\u2019t [anticipate the split]. At the same time, we were both very young.\u201d<\/p>\n He admitted that after his band went on a lengthy hiatus, their relationship suffered.<\/p>\n \u201cAt 31, we\u2019d had all these great years as a band, and then we took time off, and I basically became Mr. Mom. I had the beard, the flannel shirt. I didn\u2019t know what my identity was. That factored in. When your identity is what you do, it\u2019s hard when you stop doing it,\u201d he told Stern. \u201c[I\u2019m thinking], \u2018Well, no one\u2019s really taking my picture. I\u2019m just basically hanging out with my kid all day. Who cares?\u2019 think when you stop caring about your personal appearance, your personal hygiene, it makes you even more depressed, but it makes you do it more. It\u2019s like a vicious cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n Things hit the fan when he was \u201creally upset\u201d to be hosting a Jingle Ball event in late 2010. \u201cI wanted to be performing but I wasn\u2019t performing. I drank a bunch of beers and that night, I banged my head and I ended up needing to get stitches,\u201d he recalled. \u201cAll this stuff that was not like myself at all, it was part of this cycle of being bummed out.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time, he revealed that it hurt that Simpson left him when he was down.<\/p>\n \u201cI would be an idiot to think that I didn\u2019t contribute to the unraveling of it,\u201d Wentz explained. \u201cOf course, at first, I\u2019m like, \u2018This sucks! You bailed on me!\u2019 That kind of stuff. But you get perspective. We have a kid together. Our kid is awesome<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Both Wentz and Simpson moved on with new partners. He started dating Meagan Camper<\/strong><\/a> and the twosome have gone on to welcome son Saint, born in 2014, and daughter Marvel, born in 2018. The Ashlee Simpson Show<\/em> alum, for her part, wed Evan Ross<\/strong><\/a> in 2014, giving birth to daughter Jagger in 2015 and son Ziggy in 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n
