Greta Gerwig<\/strong><\/a> and Noah Baumbach<\/strong><\/a> are in the movie-making business \u2014 but they choose to keep their romance out of the limelight whenever possible.<\/p>\n

The twosome began as coworkers in 2010<\/a> when Gerwig played Florence in Baumbach\u2019s Greenberg<\/em>. Later that year, Baumbach split from Jennifer Jason Leigh<\/strong><\/a>, with whom he shares son Rohmer, after five years of marriage. In the wake of his breakup, the While We\u2019re Young<\/em> writer\u2019s dynamic with Gerwig turned romantic.<\/p>\n

Gerwig and Baumbach proceeded to become two of Hollywood\u2019s best-known collaborators<\/a> in the years that followed cowriting 2012\u2019s Frances Ha<\/em>, 2015\u2019s Mistress America<\/em> and 2022\u2019s White Noise<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Their joint writing venture for 2023\u2019s Barbie<\/em><\/a>, however, may be their biggest project to date \u2014 and according to Gerwig, Baumbach had no clue she signed them up to write the Margot Robbie<\/a><\/strong>-led film.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018And Noah would like to write it too.\u2019 And I had not really talked to Noah about this,\u201d Gerwig recalled during a November 2022 appearance on Dua Lipa<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cAt Your Service\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cI think I had a 6-month-old baby when I said yes? And I wasn\u2019t necessarily running everything by him \u2026 It was in March of 2020 that Noah said, \u2018Are we meant to be writing a Barbie<\/em> movie?\u2019 I said, \u2018Yes.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cHe said, \u2018I don\u2019t have any ideas for that! Why didn\u2019t you sign us up to write a different thing?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Because I have a feeling. I like Margot and I have a feeling<\/a>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

2011 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

After Gerwig starred in Baumbach\u2019s Greenberg<\/em>, which was released in 2010, the twosome began dating in late 2011.<\/p>\n

2012<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As their relationship grew off screen, Gerwig and Baumbach teamed up for the first time as cowriters for Frances Ha<\/em>. Gerwig also starred as Frances in the film, while Baumbach served as a producer and director on the project.<\/p>\n

January 2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The pair made their red carpet debut at the Golden Globes<\/a> in Los Angeles. Two months later, Gerwig and Baumbach attended the 90th Academy Awards as a couple. Gerwig was nominated for two Oscars that year for Best Achievement in Directing and Best Original Screenplay for Lady Bird<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

March 2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Us<\/em> confirmed that the duo welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Harold<\/a>.<\/p>\n

January 2020 <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gerwig revealed during an appearance on the Late Late Show With James Corden<\/em><\/a> that she and Baumbach don\u2019t like relationship labels. \u201c\u2018Boyfriend\u2019 makes it sound like I just met him last week,\u201d she told the comedian. \u201c\u2018Lover\u2019 is disgusting. And \u2018fianc\u00e9\u2019 makes it sound like there\u2019s an imminent wedding. So none of it works.\u201d<\/p>\n

February 2020<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gerwig and Baumbach became the first couple to compete at the Academy Awards in the same categories \u2014 and they both earned six nods for their individual films. They faced off for Little Women<\/em><\/a> and Marriage Story<\/em><\/a>, respectively, in three categories: Best Picture, Lead Actress and Supporting Actress. Little Women<\/em> won Best Achievement in Costume Design, while Marriage Story<\/em>\u2019s Laura Dern<\/strong><\/a> took home the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role<\/a>.<\/p>\n

December 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Mistress America<\/em> actress announced on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a> that she and Baumbach were expecting their second baby, his third. \u201cI went to an event recently, and I wore something, and I thought everyone would be so interested that I was having another child, and nobody cared,\u201d Gerwig joked. \u201cIt didn\u2019t get reported on. Turns out nobody\u2019s paying attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

July 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gerwig confirmed to Elle U.K.<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on July 19 that her and Baumbach\u2019s second son arrived four months prior. \u201cHe\u2019s a little Schmoo. I don\u2019t know if you can tell energy from the picture, but that\u2019s very much his energy,\u201d she gushed to the outlet. \u201cHe\u2019s a wise little baby.\u201d<\/p>\n
