Sterling K. Brown<\/strong><\/a> had a moment of sheer panic after he impersonated Common<\/strong><\/a> during a Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> skit.<\/p>\n

During a Thursday, February 15, interview with Variety<\/em><\/a>, Brown, 47, recalled running into Common, 51, on a flight after parodying him during a March 2018 episode of the sketch comedy show.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t speak to me until we got off the plane,\u201d said Brown. \u201cAnd then he came up and said, \u2018That sketch, bro. What\u2019s up with that?\u2019 I told him it was all love \u2014 I know he\u2019s a good dude.\u201d<\/p>\n

Common, whose real name is Lonnie Rashid Lynn, then told Brown that he\u2019d lost speaking engagements and endorsements over the skit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kept telling him they were just jokes, but he was like, \u2018It\u2019s jokes to you, but it\u2019s messing with my bottom line,\u2019\u201d Brown recounted. \u201cI said, \u2018Common, are you serious?\u2019 And he said, \u2018No, I\u2019m just kidding, dude.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown had a good laugh over the rapper\u2019s prank, even though it gave him a genuine scare at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told him it was the worst thing he\u2019d ever done,\u201d he joked. \u201cI was standing in front of my kids believing I ruined this man\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the sketch in question, Brown, who shares sons Andrew, 12, and Amar\u00e9, 8, with wife Ryan Michelle Bathe<\/strong>, poked fun at Common\u2019s habit of speaking in inspirational lectures.<\/p>\n

Thompson\u2019s Harvey repeatedly got fed up with Common\u2019s monologues during the skit.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just slow it down there, Dr. Martin Luther Seuss,\u2019\u201d he said, later quipping, \u201cYou ain\u2019t no rapper, you\u2019re more like a TED Talk set to music.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s spot-on impression of Common may have come as a surprise to fans who know him from the drama This Is Us<\/em>, but he\u2019s been working on his comedic chops for years.<\/p>\n

Even if you have a sense of humor, you don\u2019t really get to be the quirky comedian guy,\u201d he said. \u201cI had to cultivate my own sense of humor knowing that I might not get those roles immediately, but I had to be ready when I did.\u201d<\/p>\n
