Only Murders in the Building<\/em><\/a> keeps viewers guessing with surprising twists and turns \u2014 including the shocking murder which sets the scene for season 4.<\/p>\n

During the season 3 finale, which aired in October 2023, focused on Mabel (Selena Gomez<\/strong><\/a>), Charles (Steve Martin<\/strong><\/a>) and Oliver\u2019s (Martin Short<\/strong><\/a>) attempts to catch Ben Glenroy\u2019s (Paul Rudd<\/strong><\/a>) killer. Their search led them to Donna (Linda Emond<\/strong>) and her son, Cliff (Wesley Taylor<\/strong>), the producers of Oliver\u2019s play who were responsible for the unsuccessful poisoning and the actual murder.<\/a><\/p>\n

As the trio celebrate Oliver\u2019s successful opening night after Donna and Cliff got arrested, Charles\u2019 stunt double Sazz (Jane Lynch<\/strong><\/a>) visits the party. She hints to Charles that they need to have a private talk about something before going to his apartment. Sazz \u2014 who bears a striking resemblance to Charles \u2014 gets shot in a murder attempt presumably planned for him.<\/a><\/p>\n

Season 4 will pick up after Sazz\u2019s death as the group tries to piece together<\/a> why someone wanted to take out Charles.<\/p>\n

Who Is Returning for Season 4?<\/h3>\n

Gomez, Short and Martin will return to solve the next big mystery in the Arconia. Show creator John Hoffman<\/strong> hinted that Loretta (Meryl Streep<\/strong><\/a>) and Tobert (Jesse Williams<\/strong><\/a>) could make appearances after both voicing plans to move to Los Angeles in the season 3 finale.<\/p>\n

The writers room for season 4 of Only Murders in the Building<\/em> is set to start in October 2023. As the initial production on the next episodes kicks off, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike, which means actors won\u2019t be able to film any content until a fair deal<\/a> with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) is met.<\/p>\n

What Is the Vision for Season 4?<\/h3>\n

\u201c[So far I have even been able to] shape something together that feels very exciting and new for the show and tied in ways that are really important. But [it is] also all new, something we haven\u2019t done before. So I\u2019m excited about that,\u201d Hoffman exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in October 2023 before discussing the future of the show<\/a>. \u201cThe joy of working on the show is rare and I think everyone working on the show knows that\u2019s rare. So the instinct and inclination is that there\u2019s room here \u2014 certainly in what we\u2019re looking at and thinking about for season 4 \u2014 to explore something new.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe dropped the breadcrumbs of something else going on, and Sazz is on to it in some way. And she does it again when she arrives at the end of episode 10 and says \u2018let me grab you for a couple of minutes to discuss something a little sensitive,\u2019 Hoffman noted to TVLine in October 2023. \u201cThere\u2019s something on her mind \u2014 enough on her mind that she\u2019s potentially sending a signal in the very last shot of the season to try and impart some information.<\/p>\n

Hoffman also confirmed Lynch would have a large role on the upcoming season.<\/a><\/p>\n

Are Parts of the Show Going to Be Set in Los Angeles?<\/h3>\n

After the season 3 finale mentioned Los Angeles multiple times, Hoffman weighed in on the possibility of moving OMITB<\/em> to the West Coast.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is our apartment building, and much like how we want to get out and be in New York as much as possible, I think you also have to remember this trio and the potential for whatever would be happening in their lives that might lead them to go away for some reason,\u201d he shared with TVLine. \u201cI\u2019ve got big hopes in that way, to shake up the look, but it has to be driven by the story.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABC TV President Craig Erwich<\/strong> confirmed in February 2024 that OMITB<\/em> will relocate to California, telling Deadline<\/em>, \u201cI\u2019m very excited to see Steve, Martin and Selena take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles. So in the same way that John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you\u2019ve ever seen, the same unique Only Murders<\/em> take will be applied to Los Angeles.\u201d<\/p>\n
