Linda Hamilton<\/strong><\/a> is having a blast playing General Eleanor McCallister on Resident Alien<\/em>, but there\u2019s one challenge she wasn\u2019t expecting to face on the Syfy series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like a miserable failure, [because] in every scene I do, there is so much great comedy going on around me. There\u2019s some absolutely brilliant comedians on that show. The women are great. And I\u2019m the \u2018straight man,’\u201d Hamilton, 67, quipped during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hamilton made attempts to add some humor<\/a> to her character, who is very by the book, but it was all to no avail.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll get a scene and I can\u2019t give anything away. But I\u2019ll go, \u2018Oh, this is funny.\u2019 And I\u2019ll work it and work it and say, \u2018Oh, I can really do this with that line,’\u201d she recalled. \u201cThen I get to set and they\u2019re like, \u2018The way you\u2019re doing that \u2014 don\u2019t do that.\u2019 I\u2019m the straight man. That\u2019s my job. So everybody is really funny except for me. Somebody\u2019s got to do that part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Resident Alien<\/em>, which premiered on Syfy in January 2021, follows an alien (Alan Tudyk<\/strong>) who is set to wipe out humanity. Instead, the extraterrestrial being lands in Colorado and takes on the identity of the town\u2019s physician, Harry. Season 3 sets up a new partnership between Harry and General McCallister as they work together to take down the Grey aliens inhabiting Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that Harry and the general are working together, it\u2019s just more opportunities [for my character] to become more frustrated with him. It\u2019s harder to be on his team than to [not be],\u201d Hamilton teased. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t necessarily make her life any easier that she\u2019s working with Harry. So I enjoy that we\u2019re on the same side. We are so alike, but [Harry\u2019s] got his secrets.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cHarry\u2019s reality and the general\u2019s reality are very far apart, and that\u2019s good. So I don\u2019t have to particularly get [together] with Alan to make [those onscreen] decisions because it\u2019s all set up there in our characters. But it\u2019s just really more the general trying to keep up with Harry. She needs him, and whenever anything might seem to be unfolding a certain way, Harry\u2019s going to mess it up somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEveryone loves an on-set couple \u2014 and these duos are no exception! Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush are just a few of the stars who went from costars to best friends in real life. Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps, for instance, met while filming\u00a0Dawson\u2019s Creek. The Oscar nominee starred as Jen [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Hamilton went on to praise Tudyk, 52, for making their scenes that much more fun.<\/p>\n

\u201c[For me], it\u2019s really just trying to keep up with Alan, who\u2019s so good and so gifted and then continues to build the scene as we go. So he might add something and it\u2019s very interesting because comedy is all about timing,\u201d she noted. \u201cBut you don\u2019t quite know when he\u2019s done. So he keeps me on my toes. You\u2019re just so in love with what he\u2019s doing. He has a way of just adding a little something that will absolutely break your heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite not being able to flex her comedic muscles on the show, Hamilton still gushed about her experience filming<\/a> Resident Alien<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs networks make decisions about their programming, Us Weekly will continue to track what has been renewed and which TV shows have been canceled. Slow Horses was the first show to score a renewal in 2024. In early January, Apple TV+ picked up the series for a fifth season, which will be based on Mick [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen I look for work, I do look for something that I haven\u2019t necessarily done already. I don\u2019t want to just sort of recycle the same character,\u201d she shared. \u201c[With Resident Alien<\/em>], it was the comedy around it \u2014 not even for my character \u2014 [that interested me]. I just love the writing. I love [showrunner] Chris Sheridan<\/strong> and I believe in him beyond 100 percent. \u2026 His writing is so wonderful, and sometimes you just read a project and say, \u2018I want to be a part of that.’\u201d<\/p>\n
