He briefly riffed on the Super Bowl\u2014and right-wing conspiracy theories that it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/an-exasperated-pentagon-responds-to-the-taylor-swift-conspiracy-theories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fixed by <strong>Travis Kelce<\/strong> and <strong>Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> (\u201cIt\u2019s almost like the right\u2019s ridiculous obsession with politicizing every aspect of American life ruins everything\u201d)\u2014before diving headfirst into the nine-month countdown to the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart entered his new late-night age by talking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/why-the-biden-campaign-cant-ignore-concerns-about-his-age\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the advanced numbers<\/a> <strong>Joe Biden<\/strong>, age 81, and <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>, age 77, are pulling. \u201cWhat the fuck are we doing here, people?\u201d he asked at one point, theorizing that \u201cIndecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,\u201d and \u201cIndecision 2024: Antiques Roadshow\u201d would be apt branding for the candidates\u2019 second showdown.<\/p>\n<figure data-testid=\"IframeEmbed\" class=\"IframeEmbedWrapper-sc-dRedg hZcniq iframe-embed\">\n<div data-testid=\"IframeEmbedContainer\" class=\"IframeEmbedContainer-hptgUZ hSLYci\">\n<p><iframe class=\"IframeEmbedContent-cMdiev csnuAY IframeEmbedContent\" height=\"300px\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" title=\"Embedded Frame\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/NpBPm0b9deQ\" allow=\"autoplay *; encrypted-media *; clipboard-write; autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The host, who will sit behind the desk on Mondays before the show\u2019s correspondents emcee the rest of the week, found equal opportunity for criticism. Stewart acknowledged special counsel <strong>Robert Hur<\/strong>\u2019s report that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/no-charges-for-joe-biden-in-classified-documents-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exonerated President Biden<\/a> of mishandling classified documents while also calling him an \u201celderly man with a poor memory.\u201d That was followed by clips of Trump and his family members not being able to recall basic info during various depositions. \u201cIt turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,\u201d Stewart quipped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">After playing a clip of Vice President <strong>Kamala Harris<\/strong> assuring that Biden is \u201con top of it all,\u201d Stewart wondered: \u201cDid anyone film that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The <em>Daily Show<\/em> host isn\u2019t being ageist, he insisted during Monday\u2019s premiere, but \u201chuman lifespanist,\u201d he said, launching into his central concern. \u201cThese two candidates, they are both similarly challenged,\u201d Stewart explained. \u201cWe\u2019re not suggesting neither man is vibrant, productive or even capable. But they\u2019re both stretching the limits of being able to handle the toughest job in the world. What\u2019s crazy is thinking that we\u2019re the ones, as voters, who must silence concerns and criticisms. It is the candidates\u2019 job to assuage concerns, not the voters\u2019 job not to mention [them].\u201d He incredulously reiterated: \u201cWe have two candidates who are chronologically outside the norm of anyone who has run for the presidency in the history of this country \u2014 breaking the record that <em>they<\/em> set!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Nevertheless, Stewart maintained that Biden and Trump aren\u2019t comparable on several other key issues. \u201c[Biden] hasn\u2019t been indicted as many times, hasn\u2019t had as many fraudulent businesses or been convicted in a civil trial for sexual assault or been ordered to pay defamation charges or stiffed blue collar tradesman\u2026..\u201d he began. And yet\u2014\u201cThe stakes of this election don\u2019t make Donald Trump\u2019s opponent less subject to scrutiny. It actually makes him <em>more<\/em> subject to scrutiny. If the barbarians are at the gate, you want Conan [the Barbarian] standing on the ramparts, not chocolate chip cookie guy,\u201d he concluded, referencing Biden\u2019s <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bidenhq\/video\/7334529963066019114\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bidenhq\/video\/7334529963066019114&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bidenhq\/video\/7334529963066019114\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pre-Super Bowl TikTok debut<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Later in the show, correspondents <strong>Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta,<\/strong> and <strong>Dulc\u00e9 Sloan<\/strong> appeared for a segment about election coverage, while Stewart interviewed guest <strong>Zanny Minton Beddoes<\/strong>, editor in chief of <em>The Economist<\/em>. But before then, he acknowledged his own aging process to further his point about the elderly presidential candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cLook at me,\u201d Stewart said, beckoning the camera to come in closer. \u201cLook what time hath wrought. I\u2019m like, 20 years younger than these motherfuckers. Look at this\u2014<em>they wish<\/em>.\u201d The only problem with his comparison?
