The iconic 43-year-old tennis player \u2013 who has amassed seven Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles alongside her sister Serena Williams<\/a>, 42, as well as two Grand Slam mixed titles \u2013 added there is \u201cno feeling\u201d like the one she feels when winning in her game and said it has given her confidence in every aspect of her life.<\/p>\n

She told People at the Flag Football for Change: Dove x Sports Legends Venus Williams<\/a> and Steve Young event in Las Vegas during the Super Bowl weekend: \u201cI had no idea some of the statistics of girls dropping out of sports. \u201cForty-five percent of girls globally \u2013 because of body confidence issues \u2013 drop out (of sports) before the age of 14.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think those numbers existed anymore. So hearing that was very sobering.\u201d<\/p>\n

Venus added she wants her fans to know she\u2019s on \u201cteam body confidence\u201d, stressing: \u201cWe need women in sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cI know what sports (have) done for me, not only for a career, let’s not even talk about that, but for feeling confident.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWhen you score a goal, when you achieve something, when you put the work in and you get there, there\u2019s no feeling like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nVenus added her participation in tennis helped her to \u201cachieve that sort of confidence and belief\u201d in herself, adding: It\u2019s huge. And I don\u2019t think anything teaches that as well as sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThe athlete said maintaining a healthy level of confidence \u201chelps you to shift your focus\u201d, adding it is \u201cwhat girls need\u201d.<\/p>\n

\nOpening up about her work as a flag football coach in conjunction with Dove, Venus said she hopes to inspire those involved with \u201cmy experience in sports and in life and my story and even my career\u201d.<\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cI think the language of sport is universal. It\u2019s the same language, even if it\u2019s a different sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
