Fans of The Devil Wears Prada<\/em> have long been hoping for a sequel, but the cast is torn about revisiting the 2006 film.<\/p>\n

Anne Hathaway<\/strong> starred as Andy, an aspiring journalist who lands a coveted job as the personal assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep<\/strong>), the powerful editor of a fashion magazine called Runway<\/em> (think: Anna Wintour<\/strong> and Vogue<\/em>). She works alongside Emily (Emily Blunt<\/strong>) and Nigel (Stanley Tucci<\/strong>) as she tries to navigate her boss\u2019 laundry list of requests.<\/p>\n

Despite the public interest \u2014 and the fact that there\u2019s a sequel to the book that the film was based on \u2014 a second movie has never been pursued.<\/p>\n

Hathaway previously confessed she wasn\u2019t sure<\/a> whether there would ever be a sequel given how much the media landscape has changed. \u201cI just think that movie was in a different era, you know? Now, everything\u2019s gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing,\u201d she explained on The View<\/em> in November 2022. \u201cIt\u2019s just very different now.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked whether she\u2019d be game for a second film, Streep said to Access Hollywood<\/em> in 2012, \u201cSure, I mean, I\u2019d have to lose the f\u2013king weight, but I would do that, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Hathaway was spotted sitting next to Wintour<\/a> at New York Fashion Week in September 2022 \u2014 even donning a similar outfit to her character \u2014 fans were hopeful about another movie. Hathway put the rumors to rest one month later.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not going to be a sequel,\u201d Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in October 2022. \u201cIt\u2019s not gonna happen. It\u2019s just like, we can\u2019t do it. It\u2019s not gonna happen. It exists. There are other films. There will be other films. We can just watch that one [The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>] again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hathway noted that the excitement was just a reflection of how popular the movie continues to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing is, I don\u2019t stop and focus on it, but it was a beautiful kind of [thing]. If anything, it was a testament to people\u2019s love of the movie and how deeply they\u2019ve taken that film, and that\u2019s just a wonderful feeling. I just feel so lucky,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

During a November 2022 appearance on The View<\/em>, Hathway suggested a reboot with a new cast, saying, \u201cBut they could relaunch it. They could find new people and do it. Do you think they\u2019d let us do that?\u201d<\/p>\n

Emily Blunt<\/h3>\n

Blunt gushed on The View<\/em> in November 2022 that she would do a second movie \u201cin a heartbeat,\u201d but she seemingly changed her tune two years later. The Oppenheimer<\/em> star claimed in February 2024 there had \u201cnever\u201d been much movement when it came to creating a second film, noting that the cast is \u201cgood\u201d with the one movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it\u2019s OK,\u201d Blunt explained during an appearance on the \u201cHappy Sad Confused\u201d podcast. \u201cAnd I think \u2014 didn\u2019t Meryl say something funny about it? They asked her about it, \u2018Would she ever do a sequel?\u2019 and she went, \u2018Yeah, if I don\u2019t have to lose the weight.\u2019 But I think she said \u2018the f\u2013king weight.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
