Sally Struthers\u2019 fans were convinced she was hitched to her \u2018All in the Family\u2019 on-screen husband Rob Reiner<\/p>\n
The 76-year-old actress was married to psychiatrist William Rader, 86, during her time on the beloved CBS show but has now revealed she was plagued by constant rumours she was hitched to Rob, 76, who plated her spouse Michael \u2018Meathead\u2019 Stivic in the 1970s sitcom.<\/p>\n
She told Page Six about how she had to quit getting meals with Rob due to the false talk they were an item: \u201cIt became apparent rather quickly that my life had completely turned upside down.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added she and Rob would go out for lunch at The Grove in Los Angeles, but said \u201cwithin two months, we couldn\u2019t do that anymore\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sally added about her fans: \u201cWhen they saw me with my real-life husband, they (would) go, \u2018Where\u2019s your husband?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd when the actress tried explaining she was hitched to William, she said they refused to listen and insisted she was married to \u2018Meathead\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cPeople are so funny. They get an idea in their head, they\u2019re like an old dog with a bone.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSally played Archie and Edith Bunker\u2019s daughter Gloria Stivic on \u2018All in the Family\u2019 and says the sitcom, which ran for eight series from 1971 to 1979, was groundbreaking as it showed reality.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThe Bunkers came along and they flushed toilets. \u201cThey didn\u2019t have good manners at the table. They reached over one another for food\u2026 and they talked about real things.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThey peeled off the veneer. And you saw the less-than-perfect side of human beings.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou saw the arguing and the vehemence and the bigotry. You can\u2019t put the genie back in the bottle now. Everything got more honest after that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSally, who had daughter Samantha with William, divorced the therapist in 1983, while dad-of-four Rob is hitched to his second wife Michele Singer, whom he wed in 1989.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
