Mariah Carey Shades The Grammys<\/h2>\n Mariah received the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy\u2019s Black Music Collective in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 1.<\/p>\n
The honor celebrated\u00a0her achievement and influence\u00a0as a Black artist over the last several decades.<\/p>\n
But speaking of a long time, Mariah was quick to remind everyone that the Academy hasn\u2019t shown her much love in recent years. <\/p>\n
While accepting her honor, Mariah threw a little shade their way. <\/p>\n
\u201cIs this a real Grammy?\u201d she asked, before adding, \u201cI haven\u2019t seen one in so long.\u201d<\/p>\n
To be fair, she isn\u2019t kidding! It\u2019s been 15 since she was last nominated for a Grammy and almost 20 since she\u2019s won one!<\/p>\n
Mariah Carey\u2019s Grammy Wins Through The Years<\/h2>\n To date, Mariah Carey has won five Grammy awards \u2013 six, if you count this honorary award.<\/p>\nMariah holding her golden gramophones in 2006. Considering how much of an icon she has become, the award was more than well deserved, no?<\/p>\n
From there, she has been nominated 34 times. Her last win came in 2006 for the track \u201cWe Belong Together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her last nomination came in 2009 for Best Gospel Performance. When I first started in the music business, I was often told to conform to certain expectations,\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was not encouraged to focus on my love for Black music. It took me countless arguments, endless tantrums \u2014 I\u2019ll call them tantrums \u2014 and mostly unwavering determination, but eventually, I was able to reveal my authentic self, as they say, and create music that came from my heart. In doing so, I discovered a newfound sense of freedom and fulfillment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
