Post Malone<\/strong> is ditching beerbongs and Bentleys for rhinestone suits and pickup trucks.<\/p>\n

Malone burst onto the scene in 2016 with the trap\/hip-hop sounds of \u201cWhite Iverson,\u201d but he hasn\u2019t stayed in that lane. From the alternative rock sounds of \u201cCircles\u201d to his heavy-metal love on \u201cTake What You Want\u201d (which features Ozzy Osbourne<\/strong>) and his faithful rendition of Nirvana\u2019s catalog during a 2020 livestream event, Malone has flirted with multiple genres. Next, the Texas native plans to head back home with country western music.<\/p>\n

The idea has seemingly been on Malone\u2019s mind for years. He previously teased a double LP with country star Dwight Yoakam\u2019<\/strong>s band and hinted \u201cnothing\u201d was stopping him from going full-on outlaw, dropping even more clues after the 2023 CMA Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Malone is no stranger to country music, previously wearing T-shirts featuring Billy Strings<\/strong>, Colter Wall<\/strong> and Tyler Childers<\/strong> and forming friendships<\/a> with Nashville\u2019s music royalty, including Luke Combs<\/strong>, Carrie Underwood<\/strong> and Tanya Tucker<\/strong>. He\u2019s also covered Sturgill Simpson<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cYou Can Have The Crown,\u201d Yoakam\u2019s \u201cA Thousand Miles From Nowhere,\u201d Hank Williams Jr.<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cThere\u2019s a Tear in My Beer\u201d and Brad Paisley<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cI\u2019m Gonna Miss Her<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

As fans wait for Malone\u2019s album to drop, here\u2019s a look at everything he\u2019s said about the project:<\/p>\n

April 2021<\/h3>\n

Malone announced that he was releasing a double album of country music. \u201cI wanted to create something everybody can get down to. People who like country will like it. People who like folk will dig it. Even people who like pop will be into it,\u201d he said in a statement, per iHeart<\/a>. Malone cited Johnny Cash as one of his primary musical influences and said Dwight Yoakam\u2019s backing band would help him make the album a reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome day he\u2019s going to come with a country album,\u201d added Recently Republic Records\u2019 Monte Lipman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While the statement indicated a late 2021 release date, fans noticed Malone made the announcement on April Fools\u2019 Day. The album never materialized.<\/p>\n

June 2022<\/h3>\n

Since the release of \u201cCircles\u201d in 2019, Malone began venturing beyond trap and hip-hop. In 2022, Malone stopped by The Howard Stern Show<\/em> and said he wouldn\u2019t be confined by genre.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, there\u2019s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album [to put] on YouTube,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m allowed to do that. I\u2019m a human being.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone continued, \u201cI split my time between a lot of different things because I am happily obligated to do concerts and show love to my fans and then I\u2019m happily obligated to write music and make beats by myself, and I\u2019m happily obligated to, you know, take care of my family. So, it\u2019s a lot of time, and it\u2019s about finding that space to allot that time. If I get another year to myself, maybe I\u2019ll make a f\u2013king country album.\u201d<\/p>\n

April 2023<\/h3>\n

One year after Malone welcomed a daughter<\/a> with his fianc\u00e9e \u2014 and three months before he dropped Austin<\/em>, his fifth studio album \u2014 he revealed via Instagram<\/a> that he\u2019d stopped doing drugs, \u201ckick[ed] soda\u201d and began eating better<\/a> so he could \u201cbe around for a long time for this little angel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone also wrote that he had spent \u201ca bit [of time] in the studio lately working on new music, and am so excited to share it with you.\u201d In the post, fans noticed Malone lying next to a pair of camouflage cowboy boots. Malone also dropped three boot emojis in his caption, seemingly leaving an Easter egg about his pivot toward country.<\/p>\n

Austin<\/em> (a reference to Malone\u2019s birth name) was a slight departure from hip-hop, with more alternative rock, synth-pop and indie sounds incorporated into the work\u2019s sonic tapestry.<\/p>\n

April 2023<\/h3>\n

Malone relocated to Utah in 2019, leaving Los Angeles in his rearview. He left his mark on his new home four years later with the opening of the Post Malone-designed Raising Cane\u2019s restaurant. During the restaurant\u2019s opening, radio station 93.3 The Bull <\/a>asked whether Malone was considering making country music.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019ll do it whenever the time is right in the studio,\u201d replied Malone. \u201cI\u2019m just vibing, f\u2014king around. I think it\u2019ll be a fun time [and] I just like creating stuff and making everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

November 2023<\/h3>\n

Malone updated fans on his country project during an event with Apex Legends. \u201cCountry album is coming,\u201d he said on his Twitch channel while playing the video game. \u201cI keep singing a song that we made while I was in Nashville, and it\u2019s so f\u2014kin\u2019 sick, but it\u2019s not out. We made such sick music down in Nashville. It was so much, so much fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also spoke about the \u201camazing\u201d country artist HARDY, saying, \u201cHe\u2019s such a sweetheart. I had the most fun time ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone continued to hype up his country album at the 2023 Country Music Association Awards, where he joined Morgan Wallen<\/strong> and HARDY<\/strong> to cover Joe Diffie<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cPickup Man.\u201d<\/p>\n
