How is\u00a0Kevin McCarthy<\/strong>\u00a0taking his\u00a0historic dethroning<\/a>? It would seem not great, based on the revenge campaign he\u2019s said to be mounting!<\/p>\n Politico reports<\/a> that McCarthy and his allies are \u201cmobilizing to oust the eight GOP lawmakers who joined Democrats to depose him.\u201d Specifically, Brian Walsh,<\/strong> a top ally of the ex-Speaker, \u201cis overseeing an attempt to recruit primary challengers to take on members of the infamous \u2018Gaetz Eight\u2019\u2014the Capitol\u2019s nickname for Rep.\u00a0Matt Gaetz<\/strong>\u00a0(R-Fla.) and seven Republicans who supported his fire-McCarthy push,\u201d according to half a dozen people with knowledge of the plans.<\/p>\n \u201cThese traitors chose to side with Nancy Pelosi, AOC,<\/strong> and over 200 Democrats to undermine the institution, their fellow Republicans and a duly elected Speaker,\u201d Walsh told Politico in a statement. \u201cThere must be consequences for that decision.\u201d The outlet reports that McCarthy\u2019s team has identified three of the eight lawmakers most vulnerable to primary challenges: representatives Nancy Mace, Bob Good,<\/strong> and Eli Crane.<\/strong> Walsh reportedly made a trip to Charleston last year where he interviewed more than a dozen candidates said to be interested in going up against Mace; Catherine Templeton,<\/strong> viewed as one of the strongest of the bunch, will reportedly launch a bid next week, and \u201cMcCarthy\u2019s allies have signaled interest in devoting significant firepower to her.\u201d (While an adviser to Templeton said the ex-Speaker did not recruit her, he admitted she did meet with Walsh who, Politico notes, \u201cis considered an extension of McCarthy.\u201d)<\/p>\n McCarthy\u2019s feelings towards the \u201cGaetz Eight,\u201d and Gaetz in particular, were on display last November, shortly before he resigned from Congress. Speaking to Politico, the ex-Speaker\u00a0said<\/a>: \u201cYou have a cross section [of Florida Republicans in Congress].
