Since being cast as Rey in the Star Wars<\/em><\/a> franchise, Daisy Ridley<\/strong><\/a> has suffered from extreme anxiety \u2014 which even led to a serious health scare.<\/p>\n

Ridley, 31, shared how drastically her life changed after being offered the role as Rey by J.J. Abrams<\/strong> in Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em>, in an interview with Inverse<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, January 25.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Understand the scale,\u2019\u201d Ridley recalled Abrams, 57, telling her at the time. \u201c\u2018This is not a role in a movie. This is a religion for people. It changes things on a level that is inconceivable.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Ridley \u2014 who is currently promoting her new movie, Sometimes I Think About Dying<\/em> \u2014 went on to explain that while she was filming, she convinced herself she was \u201ccoping fine\u201d with the pressure, but the experience still felt isolating to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor friends and family, or any people who see something in a slightly different way than you do, there\u2019s this projection of you, and you in that world, and how it feels to do this and that,\u201d the actress shared. \u201cAnd you\u2019re like, \u2018Well, actually, I\u2019m just a human being, separate from that.\u2019 It\u2019s quite this wrestle, of the reality and the fantasy that\u2019s often projected onto you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although she managed to handle criticism from die-hard Star Wars<\/em> fans and her battle with endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome quite well, after The Last Jedi<\/em> premiered in 2017, Ridley\u2019s anxiety eventually got so bad she developed \u201choles in her stomach wall.\u201d Her health scare led her to take a six month sabbatical before beginning to film The Rise of the Skywalker<\/em>, which premiered in 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the last Star Wars<\/em> came out and everything was quiet, I was like, \u2018What the f\u2013k?\u2019 I was grieving,\u201d she said, adding that the pandemic was \u201chelpful\u201d in a way she never expected. \u201cI realized there was a lot that I hadn\u2019t processed properly.\u201d<\/p>\n
