We are just very close friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the &#8216;Real Time&#8217; host accepted the denial, he joked the &#8216;Father of the Bride&#8217; actor should consider dating the Oscar-winning star anyway.<\/p>\n<p>He quipped: \u201cThere\u2019s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cIt worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. It worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nMartin was married to Nancy Dolman &#8211; the mother of his children Katherine, 40, Oliver, 37, and 34-year-old Henry &#8211; for almost 30 years until she died of ovarian cancer in 2010 aged 50.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe actor told AARP in 2019 their marriage had been a \u201ctriumph\u201d, adding he still talks to his late wife \u201call the time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe added : \u201cI believe that when people die, they zoom into the people that love them.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis idea that it just ends, and don\u2019t speak of them \u2013 that\u2019s wrong. That\u2019s based on denial that we\u2019re all going to die. So to me, she\u2019s still here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nIn October, it was revealed Meryl and Don had split after 45 years of marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\nA spokesperson for the actress revealed at the time the pair had been quietly \u201cseparated for more than six years\u201d and living different lives.<\/p>\n<p>\nEven though the former couple had not been seen together since 2018, Meryl was photographed wearing her wedding ring up until the news of their split broke.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe \u2018Mama Mia!\u2019 star and sculptor Don, 77, have four children \u2013 singer-songwriter Henry Wolfe, 44, and actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and 32-year-old Louisa Jacobson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/celebrity\/martin-short-meryl-streep-close-friends-1393637.html?f=rss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>29 January 2024 Martin Short has insisted he and Meryl Streep are just &#8220;very close friends&#8221;.
