The Woman King\u00a0<\/i>found her real-life Prince Charming! Viola Davis<\/strong><\/a> and Julius Tennon<\/strong><\/a> felt an instant spark when they met on the set of\u00a0<\/a>City of Angels<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n \u201cHe was the anesthesiologist, Dr. Holly, and I was Nurse Lannett,\u201d the\u00a0Woman King\u00a0<\/i>star exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>in February 2013<\/a>, remembering how their characters \u201cwere passing blood\u201d on the set. \u201cHe knew how lonely I was. I was out in L.A. and I hated it and he said, \u2018I\u2019ll show you around Los Angeles. I\u2019ll show you around the Santa Monica pier.\u2019 We\u2019ve been together thirteen years, and from the first day, it was magic<\/a>!\u201d<\/p>\n While Davis\u2019 romance with the film producer continues to bloom after more than two decades together<\/a>, the\u00a0How to Get Away With Murder\u00a0<\/i><\/a>alum was initially wary to accept a date with Tennon after he offered his phone number.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember telling my therapist at the time, \u2018I think he\u2019s nice. He\u2019s really cute. But I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m struggling with this, that and the other,\u2019\u201d Davis recalled to the\u00a0Los Angeles Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>in December 2022 after Tennon teased that she did not call him for six weeks. \u201cThey say nostalgia isn\u2019t what happened in the past. It\u2019s a story you tell yourself about what happened in the past. So I\u2019m telling myself, \u2018This guy may not even be a nice guy. It\u2019s L.A. It\u2019s this. It\u2019s that. Let me just work on my credit.\u2019 Until my therapist told me, \u2018Oh, my God, just call the man, Viola!\u00a0Call. Him.\u2019 And that\u2019s when I stopped making excuses.\u201d<\/p>\n After the Oscar winner finally accepted Tennon\u2019s invitation, they enjoyed a quiet dinner at the Crocodile Cafe in Santa Monica.<\/p>\n \u201cHe drove me home in his Nissan Maxima,\u201d Davis told the\u00a0Los Angeles Times<\/i>. \u201cOh, it was so clean. And he drove me to the front curb and he shook my hand. He said I was beautiful and that he\u2019d had such a beautiful time. And he stayed there until I got to the door of my apartment. He was such a gentleman.\u201d<\/p>\n The pair went on to tie the knot in an intimate ceremony<\/a> in June 2003.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first time we got married with 15 people in our condo. It wasn\u2019t big enough,\u201d Davis explained during an appearance on\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u00a0<\/i><\/a>in February 2016. \u201cSo, three months later, we went to Rhode Island with about 100 people, and everybody said, \u2018You know what? The best photos are candid ones.\u2019 We put disposable cameras on every table, sepia-toned [and] black-and-white [ones]. Honey, those kids stomped the hell out of those cameras. They took pictures of the floor, of teeth \u2014 there were a lot of toothless people at the second wedding. That\u2019s another story!\u201d<\/p>\n The JuVee cofounders \u2014 who renewed their vows in February 2016<\/a> \u2014 adopted their first child together<\/a>, daughter Genesis, in October 2011. Genesis is Davis\u2019 first child and Tennon\u2019s third, as he shares two children from a previous relationship<\/a>. Since welcoming Genesis, the couple have been candid about raising her to be a strong young woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u00a0want her to honor herself, to love herself, to not compromise, to not stop when she makes a mistake and to understand that\u2019s a part of her growth,\u201d\u00a0the\u00a0Widows\u00a0<\/i>star gushed to\u00a0Us<\/i>\u00a0of motherhood<\/a> in February 2018. \u201c[I want her to know that] beauty has very little or nothing to with how she looks.\u201d<\/p>\n
