Emma Watson<\/strong> <\/a>hasn\u2019t starred in a movie since 2019\u2019s Little Women<\/em>, but she hasn\u2019t retired from acting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t see myself as having stepped away from acting,\u201d Watson, 33, told British Vogue<\/a><\/em> in an interview published on Thursday, January 25. \u201cI just see myself as wanting to expand what I do and being able to be in things that I have written or directed or produced.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained that writing and directing \u201chas been really amazing,\u201d and she started exploring the professions when she was at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. \u201cI just realized how much I loved it and that I wanted to keep doing that,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd so I actually study now as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Watson made her directorial debut in 2022 with a short film that served as an ad campaign for the Prada Paradoxe fragrance. The next step is starring in something she has written.<\/p>\n

However, she doesn\u2019t expect to return to the silver screen right away. \u201cTo really be at the start of a project takes time,\u201d she emphasized. \u201cFilms can be decades in the making, finding it and writing it and putting it together. I don\u2019t see it as a closing down. I see it as an opening up.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Watson has focused on launching a gin, called Renais, with brother Alex Watson<\/strong>, as well as her activism for gender equality and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Watson previously opened up about about how she \u201cfelt a bit caged\u201d when she took a break from acting in 2019. \u201cI wasn\u2019t very happy, if I\u2019m being honest,\u201d she told the Financial Times<\/em><\/a> in April 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOnce a Hogwarts student, always a Hogwarts student \u2014 and the Harry Potter cast\u2019s frequent reunions prove that. In 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone hit theaters, introducing the world to Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who played the three lead characters from J.K. Rowling\u2018s novels: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn\u2019t have very much control over,\u201d she said. \u201cTo stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, \u2018How does this align with your viewpoint?\u2019 It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn\u2019t get to be involved in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

She elaborated, \u201cI love what I do. It\u2019s finding a way to do it where I don\u2019t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don\u2019t want to switch into robot mode anymore. Does that make sense?\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the biggest projects she chose to participate in was Max\u2019s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts<\/em>.<\/a> The 2022 special reunited Watson with her Potter<\/em> castmates including Daniel Radcliffe<\/strong>, Rupert Grint<\/strong> and Tom Felton<\/strong>. However, she and Felton, 33, have made it clear that they\u2019ve kept in touch<\/a> over the years.<\/p>\n
