Hayden Panettiere<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about how her character arc on the CMT series Nashville<\/em><\/a> mirrored her own personal life.<\/p>\n

\u201cStraight from the beginning it was like, I\u2019m dating a football player, [and then my character] Juliette dates a football player,\u201d Panettiere, 34, who dated NFL star Scotty McKnight<\/strong> from 2011 to 2012, said during a Thursday, January 25, interview with The Messenger<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cAnd then they turned her into an alcoholic. Then, they turned to her leaving her daughter \u2026 and it was very obvious \u2026 they weren\u2019t doing their homework. They weren\u2019t creating new story lines. They were just looking at my life and going, \u2018Oh, let\u2019s just take what she\u2019s going through and put our little spin on it.\u2019 And then, ta-da! It\u2019s done and done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Panettiere, who played country pop singer Juliette Barnes on Nashville<\/em> from 2012 to 2018, has been candid about her past struggles with opioid and alcohol addiction<\/a>. In 2018, her daughter, Kaya, went to live in Ukraine with her dad, Panettiere\u2019s ex Wladimir Klitschko<\/strong>, while the actress worked on her sobriety.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHayden Panettiere has had quite the career \u2014 and her personal life has been just as captivating. The Golden Globe-nominated actress started modeling at 5 months old and appeared in her first commercial when she was 11 months old. Her big break came in 1994 when she began playing Sarah Roberts on\u00a0One Life to Live\u00a0at [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The similarities between Panettiere\u2019s personal life and the plot of Nashville<\/em> was \u201cvery traumatizing,\u201d she said. \u201cI felt like I was acting out my own life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Scream VI<\/em> star also recalled feeling \u201cvery, very alone\u201d while filming the show on location in the titular city.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy family didn\u2019t visit a whole lot. And the team of people that I was working with at the time were not the best influence on me. And these people \u2014 some had represented me since I was 13 years old \u2014 were the kind [that] when they said, \u2018Jump!,\u2019 I jumped,\u201d Panettiere said. \u201cIf they said, \u2018Wear this,\u2019 I wore that. [It] was [to] the point where I never trusted my own opinion. That\u2019s how it led me to make a lot of errors.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Nashville<\/em> ended, Panettiere realized some of the people in her corner didn\u2019t have the purest intentions.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRollercoaster romance. Hayden Panettiere and Brian Hickerson\u2019s relationship has been marred by legal trouble since the couple were first linked in August 2018. The\u00a0Nashville\u00a0alum moved on with Hickerson after her split from fianc\u00e9 Wladimir Klitschko. Panettiere and the former professional boxer began dating in 2009. The pair briefly broke up in 2011 but got engaged [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cPeople aren\u2019t trying to protect me. They\u2019re trying to protect themselves,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt\u2019s material people that I have been trained almost my entire life to trust and listen to and take advice from. It was a terrifying thing to do to finally make that switch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the ups and downs she\u2019s endured in the public eye, Panettiere persevered and got sober in 2021. During a September 2022 appearance on Red Table Talk<\/em>, she opened up about feeling \u201chorribly guilty\u201d<\/a> when her daughter first went to live overseas with Klitschko, 47.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew that the most unselfish thing I could do was to make that hard decision and just try to work on myself,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was the most heartbreaking thing I\u2019ve ever, ever had to do in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
