Epic doesn\u2019t have a lot to share about its plans just yet. It says the store will launch \u201clater this year,\u201d and Fortnite <\/em>will be available through it. Both will only be available in parts of Europe covered by the Digital Markets Act. \u201cStay tuned for details as we figure out the regulatory timeline,\u201d it said in a post on X<\/a> (formerly Twitter), adding that \u201cwe\u2019ll continue to argue to the courts and regulators that Apple is breaking the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Fortnite <\/em>hasn\u2019t been available on iOS for more than three years<\/a>, after Apple kicked the game off and banned Epic for sneaking in third-party in-app payments. (Epic subsequently sued Apple over it in a case that just wrapped up<\/a> last week; Epic largely lost.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Apple still has some oversight of third-party app stores, which means it\u2019s possible Epic could run into issues with the launch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Epic has said for years that it would like to bring its game store, which is currently available for Windows and macOS, to the iPhone. The store takes a smaller cut of fees than Apple\u2019s App Store, which could make it a compelling option for developers if Epic can gain traction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n We\u2019re about to see a wave of announcements of third-party app stores for iOS after Apple announced today that they would be allowed in Europe under its new rules.
