Nicole Kidman has thanked her parents for letting her go \u2018wild\u2019<\/p>\n
The \u2018Big Little Lies\u2019 actress, 56, says she is still in awe of how her mum Janelle and dad Antony knew she was sneaking into nightclubs as a teen, but said her taste for adventure was balanced by her desire to have a nurturing home life.<\/p>\n
She told Vogue Australia about how she still has that dual aspect to her personality: \u201cThat\u2019s probably seeped over into the way I approach my career and my life as well. Because I was thrust into it all at a very early age.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I wasn\u2019t destroyed by it, either.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nicole\u2019s Vogue profile said her mum often told her: \u201cYou can go and explore things and try things, but don\u2019t lose your head.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNicole added: \u201cBut she never said don\u2019t go and explore. When I think back on it, I\u2019m like, \u2018wow! That was great.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNicole\u2019s late dad Antony would sometimes be sent to fetch his daughter in the early hours of the morning when she\u2019d been out.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cPeople would be like, \u2018Who\u2019s that?\u2019 And it would be my father showing up to drag me home.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m grateful for that now. There were always those two things happening, where I was like, \u2018I wanna be wild!\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd then I would have a strong family and nourishing home. I probably still have those two parts to my personality.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNicole had adopted children Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 61, and has daughters Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13, with her musician spouse of 18 years Keith Urban, 56.<\/p>\n
\nShe says despite her role as a mum she still protects herself from expectations around how she is meant to live her life.<\/p>\n
\nNicole added: \u201cI keep a lot of distance between me and what everyone thinks or wants or how I\u2019m meant to behave.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI try to keep a shield around me.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cPartner to a lover, I\u2019m a mother, I\u2019m a daughter, I\u2019m a sister, I\u2019m an aunt, I\u2019m a best friend.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m able to still have a very, very real, palpable life that\u2019s my own, where I\u2019m exploring every part of this journey. You know?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
