Fans are finally getting a glimpse of Logan Lerman\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> upcoming series We Were the Lucky Ones<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hulu dropped a series of first-look images of the historical drama on Monday, January 22. The series, which is a TV adaptation of Georgia Hunter\u2019s<\/strong> novel of the same name, centers on a Jewish family on their quest to survive and reunite after they are separated at the start of World War II, per the official press release.<\/p>\n

If adhering to the book\u2019s narrative, the story will follow multiple generations of the Kurc family from when they are torn apart by the way to their reunion following the fall of the Nazi party. Lerman and Joey King<\/strong> star as Addy and Halina, respectively, with King\u2019s character being the youngest of the Kurc siblings and the audience\u2019s main point of view.<\/p>\n

Hadas Yaron<\/strong>, Henry-Lloyd Hughes<\/strong>, Amit Rahav<\/strong>, Sam Woolf<\/strong>, Michael Aloni<\/strong>, Moran Rosenblatt<\/strong>, Eva Feiler<\/strong>, Lior Ashkenazi<\/strong> and Robin Weigert<\/strong> round out the cast.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAfter having to postpone their traditional fall primetime TV lineups due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, networks have planned an even bigger 2024. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike ended in September 2023 after nearly five months, culminating in better wages and labor laws for its members. Erica Lipez<\/strong> serves as showrunner and writer for the series, with Thomas Kail<\/strong> both directing and executive producing alongside Jennifer Todd<\/strong> and Adam Milch<\/strong>. Production, which was primarily done in Romania, began in December 2022 and wrapped in spring 2023.<\/p>\n

When discussing her decision to adapt We Were the Lucky Ones<\/em> into a screenplay, Lipez told Elle<\/em><\/a>\u00a0earlier this month that she was blown away by the story, which is based on true events.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was holding my breath. It was one of the most incredible family stories I had ever read,\u201d Lipez gushed. \u201cI am a Jewish woman and I\u2019ve always wanted to do something in the historical space and he brought me the book. As someone who felt like they had a good education about the Holocaust, I felt like I was seeing stories about that period of time I had never seen before through this family.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s this incredible survival tale that spans nine years, four continents, takes us from Poland to Siberia, to France, to West Africa, to Brazil. And I thought, \u2018This will be such a hard story to tell, but I don\u2019t want anyone else to try but myself and Tommy and Georgia.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

When it came to casting Lerman \u2014 who is best known for his roles in films like Perks of Being a Wallflower<\/em> and the Percy Jackson<\/em> films \u2014 Lipez said the actor was \u201calways\u201d in her mind as Addy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s just an openness to him. It is really interesting,\u201d she said, noting that she and Lerman \u201chad very deep discussions about the material\u201d while shooting. \u201cHe has his own personal connection to the material through his family\u2019s story and he was really passionate about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lipez added that Lerman and King are alike in many ways, making them perfect for their respective roles. \u201cThey\u2019re siblings in the show and they\u2019re always described within the family as twin spirits,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd there\u2019s a bit of that energy between Joey and Logan, too, in life.\u201d<\/p>\n

We Were the Lucky Ones<\/em> marks Lerman and King\u2019s second time on screen together, as the pair previously starred as siblings in 2022\u2019s Bullet Train<\/em>. They are also longtime pals in real life, often sharing their friendship via social media.<\/p>\n

In June 2023, King joked that the twosome were teaming up as a brother-sister duo for a second time. \u201cWhen someone asks if we\u2019re really playing siblings again,\u201d she wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of the twosome on set looking bewildered.<\/p>\n
