Bringing a role to life. The cast of Netflix\u2019s Queen Charlotte<\/em> series<\/a> bear a striking resemblance to their Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> counterparts.<\/p>\n In December 2022, the original regency series introduced viewers to Golda Rosheuvel<\/strong><\/a> as Queen Charlotte. Bridgerton<\/em>, which was inspired by Julia Quinn<\/strong>\u2018s novels<\/a>, hinted at the monarch\u2019s past with scenes between her and husband King George III (James Fleet<\/strong>)<\/a>.<\/p>\n Before the second season premiered, Netflix announced that Charlotte would be the focus of a prequel show<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cMany viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I\u2019m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton,\u201d Netflix\u2019s Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria<\/strong> in a statement in May 2021. \u201cShonda [Rhimes]<\/strong> and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n That same month, Rosheuvel praised the impact that Bridgerton<\/em> has had on the entertainment industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI saw [its success] before it came out, because we kinda get a sneak peek of it and I knew it was something that I hadn\u2019t seen before,\u201d the actress told Town & Country<\/em>. \u201cAnd I knew that it was something that I was hoping to see. That I have always been hoping to see. That inclusion, that diversity, pushing the boundaries so Black and brown artists can be celebrated in fabulous clothes and fabulous wigs.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cThe debate [over representation] has been ongoing and very, very long. I hope that it spills out into other characters in other shows. Playing royalty is fabulous, it\u2019s really great, but I think we need to spill out into other [genres] like sci-fi and fantasies and dramas and cop shows \u2014 all of that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n The Dune<\/em> star noted that her hope would be for representation to \u201cnot be a conversation\u201d<\/a> but a given on screen. \u201cThat\u2019s the beauty of Bridgeton,\u201d she added. \u201cWe can sit there and it just be, and it be celebrated. We can push the boundaries, then allow people to just sit in it, experience it, and recognize themselves in it. That\u2019s the power of storytelling \u2014 to just be and play.\u201d<\/p>\n Rosheuvel later teased that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story<\/em> would explore several characters from the OG show<\/a>, which starred Phoebe Dynevor<\/strong><\/a>, Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/strong><\/a>, Jonathan Bailey<\/strong><\/a>, Nicola Coughlan<\/strong><\/a>, Simone Ashley<\/strong><\/a> and more.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to still be in the world of Bridgerton. We\u2019re not moving away from the world that we know and love Queen Charlotte to be in. I think that\u2019s really clever, because it kind of keeps us on the same track,\u201d she told E! News<\/em> in March 2022. \u201cI think it\u2019s really going to be interesting to see where she has come from and the things that have led her to her in the Bridgerton that we know and love.\u201d<\/p>\n
