Help is on the way! Mrs. Doubtfire<\/em> hit screens in November 1993 and became an instant classic<\/a> beloved by families everywhere.<\/p>\n Based on Anne Fine<\/strong>\u2018s 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire<\/em>, the comedy follows voice actor Daniel Hillard<\/a> (Robin Williams<\/a>), whose wife, Miranda (Sally Field<\/strong><\/a>), files for divorce because she thinks he\u2019s unreliable. In order to prove his mettle and spend more time with his kids, Daniel poses as an elderly British nanny named Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire.<\/p>\n When his trick is uncovered by a judge, the court awards Miranda full custody of the children, but she quickly realizes that the kids are hurting without their dad. After seeing Daniel\u2019s new show, Euphegenia\u2019s House, on TV, she decides to arrange joint custody.<\/p>\n While the movie had a bittersweet ending, some of its cast members still look back on the project with fondness. Field, for her part, remembers Williams trying desperately to make her break character on set.<\/p>\n \u201cEverybody was always breaking up in the scene, falling apart in the scene because Robin was always improvising,\u201d the Oscar winner told Yahoo! Entertainment<\/em><\/a> in December 2022. \u201cAnd people were laughing. Crew was laughing. Everyone except me. I would be like, \u2018What? Just this?\u2019 and keep going. It would drive him crazy that he couldn\u2019t break me up in the scene. I just went, \u2018I\u2019m a professional, Robin \u2026 just keep going. If you do it, I promise you, I won\u2019t laugh.\u2019 And I never did.\u201d<\/p>\n Finally, Field lost her cool one day while filming<\/a> a dinner scene \u2014 but it wasn\u2019t Williams who cracked her up. \u201cPierce Brosnan<\/strong><\/a> made this inappropriate [fart] noise on his arm. And I fell down laughing,\u201d the Norma Rae<\/em> star recalled. \u201cI mean, that was it. They had to cut for the day, practically. And Robin said, \u2018Well, who knew that it was only potty humor that you were gonna laugh at?\u2019 It was Pierce that made me laugh and broke me up, and not Robin. Robin would say that it drove him nuts that he couldn\u2019t do that. He couldn\u2019t make me laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n The late comedian, who died by suicide in 2014<\/a>, also dispensed advice to his young costars. Matthew Lawrence<\/strong><\/a>, who played Chris Hillard, said that Williams told him to \u201cstay away\u201d from drugs, especially cocaine. The Good Will Hunting<\/em> actor struggled with an addiction to the stimulant in the 1970s and 1980s.<\/p>\n \u201cHe talked to me about it,\u201d the former Disney star recalled during a March 2022 appearance at 90s Con. \u201cHe was very serious. He was like, \u2018You know when you come to my trailer and you see me like that?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018That\u2019s the reason why. And now I\u2019m fighting for the rest of my life because I spent 10 years doing something very stupid every day. Do not do it.\u2019 I stayed away from it because of him.\u201d<\/p>\n
