Max\u2019s attempt to revive Sex and the City<\/em><\/a> as And Just Like That<\/em> has resulted in plenty of headlines.<\/p>\n

Sex and the City<\/em>, which premiered in 1998, focused on Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong><\/a>) and her dating life in New York alongside her friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis<\/strong><\/a>), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong><\/a>) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>). After six seasons on HBO and two movies, the hit series was revived as And Just Like That<\/em> <\/a>for Max in December 2021.<\/p>\n

Fans were not thrilled when news broke about Cattrall\u2019s absence from the project before the premiere. The decision came after Cattrall and Parker previously hinted at their falling out, which ultimately got written into And Just Like That<\/em>.<\/p>\n

During season 1, Carrie and Samantha, who hadn\u2019t stayed in touch after Carrie fired Samantha as her publicist<\/a>, sent each other a few text messages. Cattrall then shocked viewers with a season 2 cameo<\/a>. In the August 2023 episode, Samantha called Carrie after missing the group\u2019s \u201cLast Supper\u201d party.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJust as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte had their adventures, the cast of Sex and the City have been on what seems like a roller coaster since the show began in 1999. After running for six seasons, the HBO series wrapped in 2004. The costars went on to reprise their roles four years later: Sarah [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to multiple outlets, Cattrall didn\u2019t interact with Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King<\/strong> on set and taped the scene by herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe series is basically the third movie. That\u2019s how creative it was,\u201d Cattrall told Variety<\/em> in 2022 about her decision not to join the cast. \u201cI was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did \u2014 on social media.\u201d<\/p>\n

King later addressed how the divide between Cattrall and Parker inspired the onscreen story<\/a> for And Just Like That<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want to pretend that there was an absence \u2014 or wasn\u2019t an absence. I wanted to reflect the reality of the fact that there was one not joining. Story wise, I came up with the idea that Samantha\u2019s in London because we didn\u2019t want to kill her. We love Samantha. That\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d he exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in December 2021. \u201cAnd life goes on when friendships break up over incidental things that become bigger things. What happens when a friend[ship] breaks up? You still remember the good stuff and you reach out every now and then, but there\u2019s no intention of suddenly, \u2018Boom, there she is again.\u2019 It\u2019s about that friendship between those four women that\u2019s important.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Big\u2019s Death Gets Overshadowed by Chris Noth\u2019s Personal Life<\/h3>\n

During the season 1 premiere of And Just Like That, Carrie\u2019s husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth<\/strong>) was killed off after having a heart attack following a Peloton ride<\/a>. Fans of the fictional couple were upset by how and why And Just Like That<\/em> killed Big.<\/p>\n

That same month, Noth was accused of sexual assault<\/a> by multiple women. Noth, who has been married to Tara Wilson<\/strong> since 2012, denied the allegations at the time.<\/p>\n

In response to the scandal, Max scrapped scenes Noth filmed for a future episode of AJLT<\/em>. He was also fired from The Equalizer<\/em> and has remained largely out of the spotlight.<\/p>\n

Noth broke his silence<\/a> in August 2023, telling USA Today<\/em>, \u201cI strayed on my wife, and it\u2019s devastating to her and not a very pretty picture. What it isn\u2019t is a crime. There\u2019s nothing I can say to change anyone\u2019s mind when you have that kind of a tidal wave.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor said he wanted to continue booking roles in order to support his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to lay down and just say [my career is] over. It\u2019s a salacious story, but it\u2019s just not a true one. And I can\u2019t just say \u2018Well, OK, that\u2019s it for me\u2019 because of that. I\u2019m an actor. I have other things that I want to do creatively. And I have children to support,\u201d Noth, who shares two sons with Wilson explained. \u201cI can\u2019t just rest on my laurels. So yeah, I have enough to let a year drift, but I don\u2019t know how to gauge or judge getting back into the club, the business, because corporations are frightened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two months after AJLT premiered, author Candace Bushnell<\/strong> weighed in on the story lines<\/a>. (Bushnell penned the columns that inspired the original \u201990s series.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really startled by a lot of the decisions made in the reboot,\u201d she told The New Yorker<\/em> in February 2022. \u201cYou know, it\u2019s a television product, done with [And Just Like That creator] Michael Patrick King and Sarah Jessica Parker, who have both worked with HBO a lot in the past. HBO decided to put this franchise back into their hands for a variety of reasons, and this is what they came up with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bushnell continued: \u201cI mean, Carrie Bradshaw ended up being a quirky woman who married a really rich guy. And that\u2019s not my story, or any of my friends\u2019 stories. But TV has its own logic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aidan\u2019s Return<\/h3>\n

Despite Carrie and Aidan\u2019s relationship ending on the OG series<\/a>, John Corbett<\/strong>\u2019s carpenter character made a brief appearance in the second film, which opened the door for potential appearances on AJLT<\/em>. Ahead of season 1\u2019s debut, Corbett made comments that implied<\/a> he was on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201c[John] actually reached out very kindly, because he\u2019s nothing if not a gentleman, and apologized for doing that as a joke,\u201d Parker said on Watch What Happens Live<\/em> in February 2022. \u201cAnd then I was like, \u2018No, no, no, I mean, it\u2019s a free country, first of all, and second of all, I thought it was kind of delightful and fun.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Parker later confirmed that Aidan would actually be involved in the second season. Aidan returned and quickly won Carrie<\/a> \u2014 and viewers \u2014 over again with his charm. But by the end of the season, Carrie and Aidan once again went their separate ways.<\/p>\n

Not everyone was thrilled by the narrative decision, especially after King teased a different outcome<\/a>, telling The New York Times<\/em> in June 2023, \u201cI didn\u2019t bring Aidan back to fail.\u201d<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen if Corbett will reprise<\/a> the role in future seasons.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCarrie Bradshaw and Aidan Shaw weren\u2019t endgame in Sex and the City \u2014 but things appear to be looking up for the fan-favorite couple. Fans were originally introduced to the furniture designer (John Corbett) in season 3 when he started dating Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) following her split from Mr. Big (Chris Noth). The romance, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Che received a lackluster welcome at best. As sparks started to fly between Che and Miranda, viewers became furious with the character and the show for allowing Miranda to cheat on her husband, Steve Brady (David Eigenberg<\/strong>)<\/a>, while exploring her sexuality.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very aware of the hate that exists online, but I have to protect my own mental health and my own artistry. And that\u2019s way more important to me because I\u2019m a real human being,\u201d Ramirez explained to The New York Times<\/em> in February 2022. \u201cI\u2019m really proud of the representation that we\u2019ve created. We have built a character who is a human being, who is imperfect, who\u2019s complex, who is not here to be liked, who\u2019s not here for anybody\u2019s approval. They\u2019re here to be themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nixon also defended Miranda\u2019s interest in Che<\/a>, saying on The Drew Barrymore Show<\/em> one month prior, \u201cI think some people are not loving seeing these characters maybe off-kilter, but I love that. \u2026 Out of crises come really productive thing. You\u2019re not young anymore, but you\u2019re not old, either. And you still have time to make sure that your life is the way you want it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the characters continued to explore their relationship<\/a> on season 2, Daily Mail reported in January 2024 that Ramirez was dropped<\/a> from And Just Like That<\/em> for being unlikable.<\/p>\n

Ramirez didn\u2019t address the news at the time but they did take to social media to call out the film and television industry for punishing actors who have spoken out in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.<\/p>\n
