The Way Home<\/em><\/a> season 2 is almost here and stars Chyler Leigh<\/strong><\/a> and Sadie Laflamme-Snow<\/strong> are spilling the tea about what\u2019s to come with Us Weekly<\/em>, including how they handle pond frogs!<\/p>\n

In honor of the upcoming season, which premieres on Sunday, January 21, Us Weekly<\/em> teamed up with Hallmark Channel for a special screening on Wednesday, January 17. The mother-daughter event took place at The Garland in Los Angeles and was reminiscent of the summer set of Port Haven.<\/p>\n

Guests enjoyed \u201cThe Port Haven\u201d classic martini and \u201cThe Pond\u201d spicy margarita specialty cocktails while nibbling on small bites. The garden party location featured twinkle lights, a comfy couch by a fire and a photo booth, which both Leigh, 41, and Laflamme-Snow, 24, enjoyed before going into the theater.<\/p>\n

Once inside, attendees previewed the season 2 premiere before the show\u2019s leading ladies answered questions.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHallmark Media is following up its 2023 \u201cCountdown to Christmas\u201d programming with a new slate of 2024 rom-coms for fans to enjoy. The network kicks off the new year with four fresh Hallmark Channel features, beginning with Love on the Right Course, which premieres on January 6. Ashley Newbrough, who plays golfer Whitney in the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so cool to be working on a show that\u2019s created by women and about women,\u201d Laflamme-Snow, who plays Alice Landry, told Us<\/em> and the crowd during the panel. \u201cI just feel like you just feel so heard at every turn, and that\u2019s something that has been a huge blessing in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Way Home<\/em> tells the story of three generations of Landry women, Del (Andie MacDowell<\/strong><\/a>), Kat (Leigh) and Alice. When Kat and Alice come to Port Haven to live with Del, they must face their family\u2019s tragic past with the help of a time-traveling pond.<\/p>\n

Why Did Chyler Want to Play Kat?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cI have a rather strained relationship myself personally with my mother. I haven\u2019t spoken to her in about 20 years. So when you look at the script, there\u2019s these eerie similarities to it that make it quite cathartic at times,\u201d Leigh said during the Wednesday panel, moderated by Us<\/em>. \u201cBut I relate in that sense. But then also I have teenage daughters, so I also have my little baby bird [with Sadie on set]. She\u2019s my baby bird. And so I find a lot of similarities in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leigh continued: \u201cI think that was a big part of being able to truthfully tell stories. It was actually my first time playing a mom, which Is cool. And Andie MacDowell\u2019s daughter. So, I mean really, it\u2019s kind of like the best of both worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Drew Sadie to Playing Alice? <\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cFor me, I feel like right away, I think I did the audition, and I had a feeling about the audition scenes. Alice was really grumpy, and she was really bratty with her mom,\u201d Laflamme-Snow recalled. \u201cAnd you just kind of know you have somewhere to go with that because you\u2019re hearing what the series and it\u2019s all about family and it\u2019s all about these women making amends.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained: \u201cI met Alice in a place of pure rage. She just was so mad about moving to a small town and her family was so broken and she was just really going through it. And so it was exciting to see kind of like, \u2018OK, how are these people going to find their way back to each other?\u2019 So that was exciting, right from the get-go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe greatest gift for Us in 2024 would be getting to see fan-favorite couples like The Bear\u2019s Sydney and Carmy and Sweet Magnolias\u2019 Ty and Annie finally get together on screen. Since The Bear debuted in 2022, viewers and fans alike have been divided on whether the show should explore the potential romantic feelings between [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Will Alice Find Love in Season 2?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cI think when it comes to Alice at the end season 1, there was kind of the challenge ahead of her, which is, \u2018How do I be in the present?\u2019 So I think we see her in the past as such a loving, open person and she wants to try and bring that to the present,\u201d Laflamme-Snow said. \u201cSo there\u2019s some things on the horizon for Alice. I won\u2019t get into that too much, but there\u2019s people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress teased fans will see \u201cromance for all the different generations of women\u201d throughout season 2. When it comes to Alice, however, Spencer (Kataem O\u2019Connor<\/strong>) could be The One. \u201cFrom the get-go, he kind of takes her under his wing,\u201d Laflamme-Snow explained. \u201cAnd so we see that she\u2019s just so excited to see him and we\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, she\u2019s turned over a new leaf.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

What Is Chyler\u2019s Off-Screen Dynamic With Love Interest Evan Williams?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Williams, 39, plays Kate\u2019s childhood best friend and brief love interest<\/a> in season 1, Elliot, but Leigh told Us<\/em> their chemistry wasn\u2019t instant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so going to throw him under the bus,\u201d she joked, revealing that the first time they were on set was to film a funeral scene. \u201cEvan and I had pretty much just met, and we\u2019re supposed to hold hands as if we\u2019ve been friends forever. We go hold hands, but he literally, he\u2019s going to kill me. He literally just wiped his nose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leigh recalled everyone crying because it was a sad scene. \u201cAnd he wipes his nose, and he puts his hand down and what a boy, he doesn\u2019t even put it on his pants,\u201d she explained, adding that Williams grabbed her hand without thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call each other boogs as in boogers. If that\u2019s in any way, shape, or form telling of our relationship on and off camera,\u201d Leigh revealed. Despite their awkward first meeting, Leigh said she loves him \u201cso much,\u201d calling her scene partner \u201ca wonderful human being.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who Is Team Kat and Elliot?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

During the season 1 finale, Elliot told Kat he needed a break to find his own way. Leigh confessed that while she doesn\u2019t fault the character\u2019s choice, as a fan of the show, \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018No, but why?\u2019 So it\u2019s heartbreaking.\u201d She teased that she does think \u201cKelliot\u201d is endgame.<\/p>\n

Laflamme-Snow, however, had a different take as Leigh\u2019s TV daughter. \u201cI think that Elliot pill is hard to swallow for Alice. I think when she finds out, or suspects that there\u2019s been some sort of behind the scenes something going on that she didn\u2019t know about, she\u2019s pretty weirded out on so many levels,\u201d she told the audience.<\/p>\n

The actress added that Alice is \u201cprotective of her mom. And I think sometimes kids will do that to their parents where they can\u2019t let their parent just do their own thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s It Like Filming the Pond Scenes?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Throughout season 1 and now in season 2, both actresses jump into a murky pond on their land which allows them to time travel. While the effect is a unique approach, it isn\u2019t as glamorous for the stars. \u201cThe pond that we film [in], it is disgusting. It is a natural pond full of frogs,\u201d Leigh revealed. \u201cWe\u2019ve learned the entire lifecycle of a frog \u2026 and whatever other thing was skittering across the surface.\u201d<\/p>\n

She shared that the actual underwater shots are filmed in a pool, but they jump into a real pond. \u201cIt was a lot of thought that went into [shooting those scenes], and it was the only way that you could actually see us clearly because yikes, [it\u2019s] milky and green. Ew, that grossed [me out].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to say if we could do kind of like a Nightmare Before Christmas<\/em> kind of vibe. If we kind turned it on its head just a skosh. Then maybe,\u201d Leigh said, hinting that it would have to be a different kind of story. \u201cSo could we do that? Maybe not?\u201d<\/p>\n
