A month after season 2 of\u00a0<\/span>Rap Sh!t<\/a><\/em>\u00a0ended on Max, the streamer has decided not to renew the comedy series for a third season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The highly anticipated sophomore season of the Issa Rae series was <\/span>originally\u00a0scheduled to premiere on Aug. 10, 2023<\/a>, but was pushed back to November in the wake of SAG-AFTRA\u00a0<\/span>officially going on strike<\/a>\u00a0last summer and\u00a0joining\u00a0<\/span>the writers already on the picket line<\/a>\u00a0after\u00a0negotiations between\u00a0the actors’ union and major Hollywood studios and streamers fell through.\u00a0The move marked the\u00a0<\/span>first time in 63 years<\/a>\u00a0that Hollywood’s writers and actors have joined in a strike together.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The postponement was made\u00a0with the hope of giving the creative team and cast a chance to promote the new season, but the strike didn’t officially end until Dec. 5, 2023, with season 2 already in progress.<\/span><\/p>\n “We are extremely grateful to Issa Rae for creating <\/span>Rap Sh!t<\/span><\/em>, a one-of-a-kind comedy with compelling social commentary that reached viewers in a way only Issa’s talents can accomplish,” a Max spokesperson said in a statement. “A huge thank you to Issa, showrunner Syreeta Singleton and the teams at Hoorae and 3 Arts Entertainment for introducing us to Shawna and Mia, a duo whose journey fans have been invested in and who they have continued to root for through everything. We’ll never get ‘Seduce and Scheme’ out of our heads and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”<\/span><\/p>\n The Max Original series\u00a0follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunite to form a rap group. The concept was\u00a0developed from Rae\u2019s original\u00a0<\/span>Insecure<\/span><\/em>\u00a0script and aims to highlight the challenges women\u00a0face trying to break into the male-dominated hip-hop industry.<\/span><\/p>\n Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell,\u00a0Daniel Augustin and RJ Cyler also starred in the series.<\/span><\/p>\n Insecure<\/span><\/i>‘s Syreeta Singleton served as showrunner and executive producer, with Rae and Singleton executive producing alongside Hoorae’s Montrel McKay of <\/span>A Black Lady Sketch Show<\/span><\/em>, Jonathan Berry of <\/span>Insecure<\/span><\/em>, and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky of <\/span>Russian Doll<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hip-hop duo Yung Miami and JT of the\u00a0<\/span>City Girls<\/a>\u00a0also served as co-executive producers, and Rae’s go-to audio content company, Raedio, handled music supervision for the series.<\/span><\/p>\n
