After laying off over 1,000 workers across divisions last week and cutting 100 jobs at YouTube, Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent a memo to its staff warning more layoffs are expected this year.<\/p>\n
Pichai\u2019s memo said the company will have to make \u201ctough choices\u201d to meet its ambitious goals, as reported by The Verge<\/a>.<\/p>\n The CEO said this year\u2019s cuts won\u2019t be at the scale of last year\u2019s job cuts, where the company let go 12,000 people or 6% of its workforce.<\/p>\n \u201cThese role eliminations are not at the scale of last year\u2019s reductions, and will not touch every team. But I know it\u2019s very difficult to see colleagues and teams impacted,\u201d he said in an email to staffers.<\/p>\n \u201cMany of these changes are already announced, though to be upfront, some teams will continue to make specific resource allocation decisions throughout the year where needed, and some roles may be impacted.\u201d<\/p>\n Last week\u2019s Google layoffs impacted several teams including hardware, engineering, ads, and services, with over 1,000 staffers laid off. At the time, the <\/span>company also <\/span>confirmed<\/a> to TechCrunch that Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman were leaving the organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n On Wednesday, Google laid off 100 YouTube staffers<\/a> as part of reorganisation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
