The ending of HBO\u2019s Succession<\/em> was a surprise to many fans, but star Brian Cox<\/strong><\/a> saw it coming.<\/p>\n

During a post-Emmys panel moderated by Seth Meyers<\/strong>, the 77-year-old actor, who portrayed Waystar Royco CEO Logan Roy, said it was \u201cobvious\u201d that the series\u2019 fourth season would be its last \u2014 though other cast members disagreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t 100 percent know,\u201d star Matthew Macfadyen<\/strong>, who played Waystar executive Tom Wambsgans, said during the panel on Tuesday, January 16, per People<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cox playfully responded, \u201cI don\u2019t understand what you didn\u2019t know. F\u2013king dead or something. Christ, it was so f\u2013king obvious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to finish and I go, \u2018Oh, we didn\u2019t know,\u2019\u201d the Scottish actor added. \u201cWe went to the last read-through and we thought, \u2018Oh, maybe there\u2019s still life.\u2019 It\u2019s ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following Logan\u2019s shocking death midway through season 4, the remaining episodes saw the Roy siblings battling their grief while simultaneously vying over the family business. In the May 2023 finale episode, Waystar Royco was ultimately sold to another media conglomerate, GoJo.<\/p>\n

Fans were left on the edge of their seats after season 3 of Succession wrapped up with a familiar face shaking things up for the Roy siblings and their future at Waystar Royco. The third season\u2019s finale aired in December 2021 and ended with Shiv Roy (played by Sarah Snook) realizing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe do rewrite and rewrite all the way through [and we thought] that we could leave that escape door,\u201d writer and creator Jesse Armstrong<\/strong> said of the decision to end the series. \u201cAnd maybe that was psychological, because it was really, really hard actually ending it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cIt was like, \u2018We need the possibility of escape,\u2019 almost to commit to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a dramatic season 3 finale in which Logan\u2019s children and potential successors Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook<\/strong>), Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong<\/strong>) and Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin<\/strong>) failed to stop their father from selling his media empire, Succession<\/em> fans were left wondering how much longer the series could continue.<\/p>\n

In February 2023, the month before season 4 premiered, Armstrong, 53, confirmed that the fourth season would be the show\u2019s last.<\/p>\n
