We know it sounds crazy, but the 2024 Emmys, airing on FOX on January 15, are the first<\/em> opportunity the FX series The Bear<\/em> had had to win any Emmy Awards. A surprise success when it premiered in June of 2022, the series created by Christopher Storer<\/strong> earned Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Awards for star Jeremy Allen White<\/strong> in early 2023. But thanks to the quirks of Emmy eligibility, it wasn\u2019t even nominated for TVs highest honor until July of 2023, after it second season had premiered. And when the Emmys were delayed to January during the SAG-AFTRA strike, it meant that nearly a year and a half would transpire between The Bear<\/em>\u2019s premiere and its Emmy moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n But hey, look: we made it! And with The Bear<\/em> having won four Emmys already \u2014 for casting, sound mixing and editing, and picture editing \u2014 it\u2019s heading into Monday\u2019s ceremony with incredible momentum behind it. During the Golden Globes last Sunday<\/a>, White won his second award in a row, while co-star Ayo Edebiri<\/strong> won a matching statuette for best actress in a comedy. It\u2019s extremely likely<\/a> White will repeat at the Emmys \u2014 he\u2019s already won every other major award for his performance \u2014 but Edebiri will be competing in best supporting actress in a comedy series, since her season one role was a little smaller than it was in season two. She\u2019s nominated this year against last year\u2019s winner, Sheryl Lee Ralph,<\/strong> and<\/em> the previous year\u2019s winner, Hannah Waddingham,<\/strong> but we expect she\u2019ll have no trouble joining White in the winners room.\u00a0<\/p>\n And unlike at the Golden Globes \u2014 where supporting actors across all of television are in the same category, but Succession<\/em>\u2019s Matthew Macfadyen<\/strong> remained unstoppable \u2014 there ought to be a third acting winner from The Bear<\/em> at the 2024 Emmys, too. Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/strong> is nominated against his own formidable competition, including the Barry<\/em> duo of Henry Winkler<\/strong> and Anthony Carrigan<\/strong> and the Ted Lasso<\/em> duo of Phil Dunster<\/strong> and reigning champ Brett Goldstein<\/strong>. But Cousin Richie is an unforgettable part of the Bear<\/em> experience, and voters could be forgiven for thinking of Moss-Bachrach\u2019s standout season two episode \u201cForks\u201d even if they\u2019re technically voting for season one.\u00a0<\/p>\n With all those acting wins, a best comedy series win ought to come close behind, and we\u2019re also feeling bullish on the show\u2019s chances in the writing and directing categories, both of which are likely to favor series creator Storer. Yes, that makes for a virtual sweep in the comedy categories, save in best actress, where The Bear<\/em> is not nominated. But given how many people have spent the last year saying \u201cYes, Chef!\u201d and learning to make their own giardiniera, it ought to be a well-earned series of victories.\u00a0<\/p>\n
