When asked if Behar was asked to portray Dottie Lasso on the Apple TV+ series\u00a0at a PEOPLE X IHG Hotels & Resort panel <\/a>on Thursday, January 11, co-creators Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt<\/strong> expressed their surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI, no. Joy Behar from\u00a0The View<\/em>?\u201d Sudeikis asked quizzically, while Hunt added, \u201cRespectfully, it would be news to us. We just work there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sudeikis then added that he would be happy to have Behar join the Ted Lasso<\/em> family. \u201cShe\u2019s welcome to sit at the table,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ted Lasso<\/em><\/a> almost looked a little different \u2014 with Joy Behar<\/strong><\/a> playing the titular character\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were contacted about the possibility to be on my favorite show of all time,\u201d The View<\/em> producer Brian Teta<\/strong> said on the talk show\u2019s \u201cBehind the Table\u201d<\/a> podcast during a Wednesday, January 10, episode, adding that Behar, 81, \u201cquickly dismissed\u201d the role. \u201cYou were dismissive of it because it would require you to spend your hiatus in London.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behar confirmed that she turned down the role, adding, \u201cIt was too hot, do you remember there was a heat wave going on at that time, like, 100-degree weather, and I\u2019d have to get on a plane and go in the middle of the heat? No. Listen, I\u2019m a writer, I write my own stuff, I don\u2019t care about other people\u2019s stuff. I mean, I don\u2019t need to be in everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Teta, 47, told Behar that the series was \u201cthe hottest show on TV,\u201d she countered, \u201cIt was not the hottest show on TV.\u201d She added that if the Apple TV+ series had filmed in the spring or fall, she \u201cmaybe\u201d would\u2019ve taken the role \u2014 \u201cbut not in the middle of the heat wave.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince The View premiered in August 1997, more than 20 women have had permanent roles as cohosts on the ABC morning talk show. The series, which was created by Barbara Walters, features a multi-generational panel that conducts interviews and discusses the news of the day, ranging from politics to entertainment. Instead of Behar, the series cast Becky Ann Baker<\/strong> as Ted Lasso\u2019s mother, Dottie Lasso. Baker went on to earn an Emmy nomination for the episode titled \u201cMom City.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Teta pointed this out to Behar, she replied, \u201cWell, good for her. Bravo.\u201d Teta added that he \u201ccouldn\u2019t help but notice\u201d that there were \u201cJoy Behar-esque aspects\u201d to the character.<\/p>\n

Ted Lasso<\/em> centered around football coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis<\/strong>) who makes a move across the pond to coach a soccer team. The series, which earned many accolades during its run, premiered in August 2020 and wrapped up with a season 3 finale<\/a> in May 2023.<\/p>\n
