The other thing that happened was that the platform\u2019s co-founders asked to keep their conversations off the record and then leaked those conversations to another publication. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The issue has been building up over the past several weeks. After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2023\/11\/substack-extremism-nazi-white-supremacy-newsletters\/676156\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Atlantic<\/em><\/a> published an article saying that Substack had been hosting and profiting from pro-Nazi publications, more than 200 Substack writers wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1-IFF6pyxKkgG3CWuyNmZVE8L1EL6Khxo3QPAqrHOTaw\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an open letter<\/a> to the company asking it to clarify its position. On December 21st, Substack co-founder Hamish McKenzie said it would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/12\/21\/24011232\/substack-nazi-moderation-demonetization-hamish-mckenzie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not remove or demonetize Nazi content<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">\u201cThis was the moment where I started to think <em>Platformer<\/em> would need to leave Substack,\u201d Newton writes. \u201cI\u2019m not aware of any major US consumer internet platform that does not explicitly ban praise for Nazi hate speech, much less one that welcomes them to set up shop and start selling subscriptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">After soliciting responses from the <em>Platformer<\/em> community, Newton says that readers have been clear that the publication should leave Substack. <em>Platformer<\/em> is migrating to Ghost, and Newton says you won\u2019t have to do anything to continue receiving the publication. \u201cIf all goes well, following the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, you\u2019ll receive the Tuesday edition of\u00a0<em>Platformer<\/em>\u00a0as normal,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Substack didn\u2019t immediately reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/1\/11\/24035338\/substack-nazis-platformer-newsletter-switch-to-ghost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Platformer, the tech newsletter started by Verge alum Casey Newton, is leaving Substack over its policies around and response to pro-Nazi publications using the platform.
