Jo Koy<\/strong><\/a> made waves during the 2024 Golden Globes<\/a> when he poked fun at Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> and her connection to the NFL \u2014 but he insists he wasn\u2019t trying to be mean.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift. I swear,\u201d Koy, 52, said during the Sunday, January 7, broadcast, referring to Swift, 34, being shown on TV constantly during her boyfriend Travis Kelce<\/strong>\u2019s football games<\/a>. \u201cSorry about that,\u201d he quickly added after silence overtook the audience.<\/p>\n

The first-time Golden Globes host had several jokes fall flat<\/a> during his opening monologue, but when Koy name dropped Swift, 34, her reaction instantly went viral. When the camera panned to the musician, she appeared to be unamused<\/a> and took a sip of her champagne while keeping a straight face.<\/p>\n

The comedian, 52, took the stage on Sunday, January 7, after a lengthy search for a host. Koy followed in the footsteps of other comedians including Jerrod Carmichael, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Swift previously addressed the NFL\u2019s choice to consistently show her on TV when she attends Kelce\u2019s Kansas City Chiefs games, telling TIME<\/em><\/a> in December 2023, \u201cThere\u2019s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don\u2019t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don\u2019t know if I\u2019m being shown 17 times or once.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cBad Blood\u2019 singer added: \u201cI\u2019m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I\u2019m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Koy claimed to Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> on Sunday that the joke was made in jest. \u201cAww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute,\u201d he insisted when told about Swift\u2019s reaction. \u201cI was just saying it\u2019s less cutaways, that\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his appearance on the Monday, January 8, episode of GMA3: What You Need to Know<\/em><\/a>, Koy pointed to his Swift joke as the Globes moment he felt bad about. \u201cI think it was when the Taylor one was just a little flat,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt was a weird joke, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

Koy argued, \u201cIt was more on the NFL. I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn\u2019t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn\u2019t come out that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
