This Rasta Pasta was an amazing treat to our taste buds and became an instant favorite with the first bite. It\u2019s a popular Caribbean recipe that originated in Jamaica in 1985 by Chef Lorraine Washington. She made the dish for a crew of construction workers with fettuccine, red sauce and ackee, Jamaica\u2019s national fruit.\u00a0The red, green, and yellow colors looked like the colors of the Jamaican flag and prompted one of the workers to call it a \u201cRasta pasta\u201d and the name stuck!<\/p>\n<p>Why is this dish so amazing? The pasta, the incredible textures from the veggies and chicken, the seasoning, the sauce, it\u2019s all just SO good. My family absolutely loves pasta for dinner, and this is elevated enough to serve to guests. Just like in our <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/pink-sauce-pasta\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">pink sauce pasta<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/buffalo-chicken-pasta\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">creamy buffalo chicken pasta<\/a>, penne pasta is perfect for holding and absorbing the sauce. The chicken and peppers make it extra hearty, and the jerk seasoning adds a wonderful bold flavor with just enough heat. You are going to love it!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ingredients-needed\">Ingredients Needed<\/h2>\n<p>This pasta recipe is super easy to make, yet it\u2019s filled with a lot of different textures and flavors, and turns out so delicious. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for all of the exact ingredient measurements.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pasta:<\/strong> I used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.target.com\/p\/penne-rigate-good-gather\/-\/A-89301621?preselect=78779144#lnk=sametab\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">penne<\/a> for this recipe but you can also use elbows, bowties, or rigatoni.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Olive Oil:<\/strong> For saut\u00e9ing the veggies. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Green Onions:<\/strong> Also known as scallions have a\u00a0mild, slightly sweet flavor with a slightly pungent and peppery taste.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bell Peppers:<\/strong> Saut\u00e9ed red bell pepper,\u00a0yellow bell pepper and green bell pepper are classic in this recipe and offer flavor and texture.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Garlic:<\/strong> If you don\u2019t have garlic cloves, you can use minced garlic, 1\/2 teaspoon equals about one clove of garlic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chicken:<\/strong> Use any\u00a0cooked shredded chicken you have available. Leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken works great!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Seasoning: <\/strong>Use homemade\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/jerk-seasoning\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerk Seasoning<\/a> or store-bought to add wonderful sweet and savory spices to this dish! Add salt and pepper to taste.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chicken Stock:<\/strong> Gives the sauce the perfect consistency and adds extra flavor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heavy Cream:<\/strong> Adds a creamy and velvety texture to the sauce. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-rasta-pasta\">How to Make Rasta Pasta<\/h2>\n<p>This pasta rasta recipe is the best dinner for busy weeknights because it takes less than 30 minutes to make! Cook the pasta, saut\u00e9 the peppers, add everything in together, let it simmer, and finish with a garnish of sliced green onions before serving!<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cook the Pasta:<\/strong> Boil pasta according to package instructions, just until it\u2019s al dente. Then drain and set aside.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saut\u00e9 Peppers:<\/strong> In a large heavy bottom pot, heat the olive oil over medium high heat. Add the green onions and all the bell peppers to the pot. Saut\u00e9 until the peppers are tender and beginning to brown.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add Chicken and Seasonings:<\/strong> Add the shredded chicken to the pot along with the jerk seasoning, salt and pepper. Toss to coat everything in the seasoning completely and saut\u00e9 the chicken with the vegetables and seasonings, about 3 minutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Combine All Ingredients:<\/strong> To the pot, add the chicken stock, heavy cream, and cooked pasta. Bring everything to a boil, stirring continually. There are even ways that you can adjust the ingredients and customize the recipe, so it is perfect for your family. Add the green onions and all the bell peppers to the pot. Saut\u00e9 until the peppers are tender and beginning to brown.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-237914-step-0-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<p>Add the shredded chicken to the pot along with the jerk seasoning, salt and pepper. Toss to coat everything in the seasoning completely and saute  the chicken with the vegetables and seasonings, about 3 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-237914-step-0-3\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<p>To the pot, add the chicken stock, heavy cream, and cooked pasta. Bring everything to a boil, stirring continually. Once it has come to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and cook until the sauce thickens slightly and the pasta has cooked a bit more, about 5-8 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li id=\"wprm-recipe-237914-step-0-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<p>Remove the pot from heat and serve pasta with additional sliced green onions for
