The Last of U<\/em>s<\/a> season 2 has found its Abby Anderson in <\/span>Kaitlyn Dever<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>Booksmart <\/span><\/em>star, 27, confirmed on Tuesday that she will play Abby — a crucial character in the eponymous video game the show is based on — in season 2, set to begin filming in the spring.<\/span><\/p>\n “So excited to join the family \u2764\ufe0f,” Dever wrote in a post on Instagram, tagging series co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, as well as <\/span>The Last of Us<\/span><\/em> account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Dever is best known for her roles on <\/span>Tim Allen<\/a>‘s <\/span>Last Man Standing<\/span><\/em>, but most recently starred in Taika Waititi’s <\/span>Next Goal Wins<\/span><\/em>, Hulu’s <\/span>No One Will Save You<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Schitt’s Creek<\/span><\/em> star <\/span>Dan Levy<\/a>‘s <\/span>Good Grief<\/span><\/em> on Netflix.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Under her post, the actress’ famous friends — including <\/span>The Last of Us<\/span><\/em> season 1 alum, <\/span>Melanie Lynskey<\/a> — commented on the news, congratulating her on scoring the coveted role in the Emmy-nominated show.<\/span><\/p>\n “Oh I am so in love with this casting \u2764\ufe0f\u2764\ufe0f\u2764\ufe0f\u2764\ufe0f\u2764\ufe0f,” the <\/span>Yellowjackets <\/span><\/em>actress wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “now this is iconic\u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\ude4c,” responded <\/span>Never Have I Ever<\/span><\/em> actress <\/span>Maitreyi Ramakrishnan<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n “\ud83d\ude4c\ud83d\ude4c\ud83d\ude4c,” shared Levy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to <\/span>Comic Book Resources<\/a><\/em>, Dever’s character is an incredibly divisive one among fans of the original game. Abby is a leader of the Fireflies — a militia group in the game — and later the Washington Liberation Fund. It’s unclear if the show plans to follow Abby’s story from the game, however.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n HBO announced in January 2023 that the <\/span>Pedro Pascal<\/a> and <\/span>Bella Ramsey<\/a>-led\u00a0series had been renewed for season 2, just two weeks after the first episode premiered.\u00a0In July, the show’s first season received 24 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The first season of the show follows Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they travel across a post-pandemic United States to try and save humanity with a cure for the infected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0asserted in 2023 that the end of season 2 is expected to cover the game’s sequel, as confirmed by Dever’s casting as her character only appears in <\/span>The Last of Us Part II<\/span><\/em>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>but Ramsey told ET that the outline for the season cannot be described without spoilers.<\/span><\/p>\n “Who knows what’s going to happen in season 2?” Ramsey said. “I actually don’t know… I still don’t know what they’re hatching up.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Last year, Mazin told\u00a0<\/span>Collider<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that the game’s second installment would probably “take us more than a season to tell,” leaving the door open for more renewals, but both creators have made it clear they will never go beyond the narrative established by the game.<\/span><\/p>\n “Our ambition is to tell the story that exists, as best as we can, in a different medium,” Mazin said, with Druckmann adding, “This will be as many seasons as required to reach that ending, and no more.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n HBO has not yet announced a release date for\u00a0<\/span>The Last of Us\u00a0<\/span><\/em>season 2, but\u00a0the network’s Drama Chief, Francesca Orsi, told\u00a0<\/span>Deadline<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>in May 2023 that she and her team had set a goal for “some time in 2025.”<\/span><\/p>\n For more on <\/span>The Last of Us<\/span><\/em>, check out the headlines below.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n RELATED CONTENT:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
