By comparison, the average helicopter puts out between 96 and 107db. A number of startups have gone out of business, most notably,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/9\/21\/23365557\/kitty-hawk-larry-page-electric-vtol-shutdown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google founder Larry Page\u2019s Kitty Hawk<\/a>, which helped kick off the boom in 2017. There have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/8\/10\/23827522\/wisk-archer-air-taxi-lawsuit-settlement-boeing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuits<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/6\/4\/21280676\/kitty-hawk-cancels-flyer-evtol-drone-aircraft-hoverboke-layoffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">layoffs<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futureflight.aero\/news-article\/2023-08-25\/horizon-says-new-spac-deal-will-fund-development-new-cavorite-x7-evtol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mergers<\/a>, and no shortage of drama, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futureflight.aero\/news-article\/2022-09-01\/beta-evtol-aircraft-battery-catches-fire-while-awaiting-ground-testing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a handful of fires<\/a>\u00a0and at least\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flyingmag.com\/vertical-aerospace-evtol-prototype-goes-down-during-uncrewed-test-flight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one (uncrewed) crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Supernal\u2019s ties to Hyundai could give it an advantage in the manufacturing of its aircraft, as the spinoff will be able to rely on the automaker\u2019s mass production capabilities to help it get started. One of the main challenges with electric flight is the power-to-weight ratio. Heavy batteries create more weight, requiring more power to compensate, and even bigger batteries.
