The cast of Succession<\/em><\/a> came together for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards<\/a> on Sunday, January 7.<\/p>\n Succession<\/em> earned nine nominations<\/a> at the awards ceremony, including Best Television Series \u2013 Drama. The cast dominated the acting categories, with nods for Brian Cox<\/strong>, Jeremy Strong<\/strong> and Kieran Culkin<\/strong> for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series \u2013 Drama, Sarah Snook<\/strong> for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series \u2013 Drama, Alan Ruck<\/strong>, Matthew Macfadyen<\/strong> and Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong> for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television and J. Smith-Cameron<\/strong> for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television.<\/p>\n The series, which followed the Roy family amid their fight for control of their media company, ran on HBO for four seasons from June 2018 to May 2023. Cox starred as the patriarch, Logan Roy, while Ruck, Strong, Culkin and Snook played his children, Connor, Kendall, Roman and Shiv, respectively.<\/p>\n Fans were shocked when Logan died<\/a> three episodes into the show\u2019s final season, but the twist set up a satisfying conclusion.<\/p>\n \u201c[Creator Jesse Armstrong<\/strong>] called me, and he said, \u2018Logan\u2019s going to die,\u2019\u201d Cox told The New York Times<\/em> in April 2023 of his character\u2019s demise. \u201cAnd I thought, \u2018Oh, that\u2019s fine.\u2019 I thought he would die in about episode seven or eight<\/a>, but episode three, I thought, \u2018Well, that\u2019s a bit early.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Despite Cox\u2019s hesitance over the timing of Logan\u2019s death, he agreed with Armstrong\u2019s decision to end the series while viewers were still hooked.<\/p>\n \u201cThe problem with a lot of television, particularly American television, is it goes past its sell-by date,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd the great thing about Jesse and the writers is they wouldn\u2019t do that. Always leave the party when it\u2019s at its height, not when it\u2019s going down.\u201d<\/p>\n The series finale saw Kendall losing out on his chance to run his late father\u2019s company. Strong revealed in May 2023 that he campaigned for an even darker ending for his character<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI tried to go into the water after we cut \u2014 I got up from that bench and went as fast as I could over the barrier and onto the pilings, and the actor playing Colin [Scott Nicholson<\/strong>] raced over. I didn\u2019t know I was gonna do that, and he didn\u2019t know, but he raced over and stopped me,\u201d he told Vanity Fair<\/em> at the time. \u201cI don\u2019t know whether in that moment I felt that Kendall just wanted to die \u2014 I think he did \u2014 or if he wanted to be saved by essentially a proxy of his father.\u201d<\/p>\n
