The \u2018Poor Things\u2019 actor, 68, has spent years sticking to a virtually vegetarian diet, but has revealed he has a farm at his home just outside Rome packed with animals as he loves their \u201ccompany\u201d. <\/p>\n
He told The Observer newspaper about how he has a vegetable garden and \u201clots of animals\u201d: \u201cI’m basically a vegetarian, so I do it just for the pleasure of their company and to try to give them a good life, which is a little na\u00efve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Willem also referred to his beasts as \u201cother people\u201d who live at his home in Italy. <\/p>\n
He also spoke about how a few months ago a snap of him with his \u2018Poor Things\u2019 co-star Mark Ruffalo, 56, went viral of the pair of them with one of Willem\u2019s alpacas. <\/p>\n
\nHe said about the animal: \u201cA baby. They\u2019re beautiful.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nAnd when asked if he believed his alpacas have personalities, he said: \u201cYeah, that\u2019s the whole thing. Each one is very distinct. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cWith sheep and goats, some you know well, some have names and they really stick, but some are just sheep and goats. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut every alpaca, you have a whole particular relationship with, and you know their character.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nWillem spent hours in make-up to play Dr Godwin \u2018God\u2019 Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 latest film \u2018Poor Things\u2019, which also stars Emma Stone, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott and Jerrod Carmichael. <\/p>\n
\nIn a retelling of \u2018Frankenstein\u2019, its plot focuses on Emma\u2019s character Bella Baxter, a young Victorian woman who, after being crudely resurrected by a scientist following her suicide, runs off with a debauched lawyer to embark on an odyssey of discovery and sexual liberation. <\/p>\n
\nIt\u2019s been named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the American Film Institute and National Board of Review, and has been nominated for seven Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture \u2013 Musical or Comedy and gained 13 Critics\u2019 Choice Awards, including Best Picture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
