The View\u2019s<\/em> <\/a>Ana Navarro<\/strong> seemingly threw some shade at Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/strong> when handing out gifts to her cohosts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the Friday, January 5, episode of the ABC talk show<\/a>, Navarro, 52, celebrated her recent birthday by presenting Griffin, Joy Behar<\/strong>, Sara Haines<\/strong> and Sunny Hostin<\/strong> with pouches emblazoned with African animals.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI was thinking of you all,\u201d Navarro said as she began to hand out the gifts. When Behar, 81, said she wanted the bag with the elephant design, Navarro replied, \u201cActually, the elephant is for Alyssa.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Haines, 46, received a giraffe because she\u2019s a \u201chead and shoulders above the rest,\u201d while Hostin, 55, was given a leopard for her \u201cbougie\u201d personality and Behar was bestowed a zebra because she doesn\u2019t \u201cchange her stripes.\u201d Navarro\u2019s animal for Griffin, however, appeared to be a little less complimentary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince The View premiered in August 1997, more than 20 women have had permanent roles as cohosts on the ABC morning talk show. The series, which was created by Barbara Walters, features a multi-generational panel that conducts interviews and discusses the news of the day, ranging from politics to entertainment. The original lineup was comprised [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cYou get the elephant, because, God knows, it\u2019s a work in progress,\u201d she quipped to her fellow Republican cohost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Griffin, 34, who made guest appearances on The View<\/em> in 2021 and 2022, nabbed a permanent seat at the table for season 26, replacing Meghan McCain<\/strong> in August 2022.\u00a0 Since joining the show, Griffin and Navarro have had their fair share of tense moments, often clashing over differing perspectives during the show\u2019s Hot Topics segment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their most recent on-air scuffle came in September 2023, when a clip went viral that seemingly showed Griffin rolling her eyes while Navarro talked about attending Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s<\/strong> Renaissance tour in New Orleans. Navarro later reposted a video of the moment via X with a caption that read, \u201cSo did anyone peep Alyssa\u2019s annoyed look when Ana mentioned going to the Beyonc\u00e9 concert in New Orleans? Then she caught herself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Navarro, for her part, added a shrugging emoji above the clip.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The pair also found themselves at odds one year prior, when they went head-to-head during a conversation about toxicity in the workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t really get a word in without you attacking me,\u201d Griffin told Navarro during the December 2022 episode. \u201cSo, I wouldn\u2019t say this is a totally different environment of women supporting each other.\u201d Navarro, meanwhile, responded by taking a drink from her mug and saying, \u201cOh, I haven\u2019t attacked you yet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Navarro and Griffin are Republicans, but Navarro has been known to critique her party and has made appearances on CNN over the years. Griffin, meanwhile, worked for former President Donald Trump<\/strong> and former Vice President Mike Pence<\/strong> during their time in the White House before she officially resigned in December 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Griffin is not the first Republican to find herself in the hot seat<\/a> with her cohosts. McCain, 39, has been candid about her grievances since departing the show, telling Variety<\/em> in October 2021 that The View\u2019s<\/em> \u201ctoxic work environment\u201d is what led to her departure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy take on the problems of The View<\/em> are that it\u2019s a show with a lot of demons that started in the beginning, and none of those demons have been exorcized,\u201d she told the outlet at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n
